Orthell Theodore Dennison Obituary (1933 - 2011)

Orthell Theodore (Ted) Dennison Passed away July 19, 2011 in Ogden, Utah. He was born August 30, 1933 in Hinckley, Utah to Theodore A. Dennison and Edith Swensen Dennison. He was the eldest of nine children. He married Lydia Shyrleen McNeil June 19, 1953 in the Logan, Utah temple. He later married Terry Lee Jokela on January 29, 2003 in Ogden, Utah. After graduating from Delta High School, Orthell enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in March, 1953 and married Shyrleen in June. While in the Air Force, Orthell and Shyrleen lived in Belleville, Illinois. They were later stationed at Kaufbeuren Air Base in Southern Germany for nearly two years, where they adopted their first child, Chris. In June, 1960, Orthell began his professional career by graduating from Utah State University with a BS in Electrical Engineering, whereupon he promptly moved his small family to Cupertino, California when he joined Hewlett-Packard Company for twenty interesting and rewarding years. During this time he also earned his MS in Electrical Engineering. During their stay in California, Orthell and Shyrleen were blessed with three additional children, Dorian, Larry and Julie. After marrying Terry, the couple lived in Salt Lake City. On August 14, 2004 their marriage was solemnized in the Bountiful, Utah temple. While in Salt Lake, Terry's son Adam came to live with them. In order to be closer to work they moved to Ogden where they were later joined by two more of Terry's children, Adrian and Matt. Orthell enjoyed bowling, golfing, the outdoors and especially being with his family. He was a hard worker and could never sit without something to do. He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints all his life and served in many callings. He served as an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple for several years and briefly served in the Ogden Temple. He is survived by his wife Terry; children Chris (Lisa) Dennison of West Valley, Larry (Nikki) Dennison of Medford, OR, Dorian Haines of Sandy and Julie (Jay) Jensen of West Jordan; step children, Adam, Adrian, Levi, Bethany and Matt; eight brothers and sisters, Dallon, Theo, Devon, Jane, Marion, Dorene, Harold and Vilate; grandchildren Dustin, Derek, Tyler, Kelli, Sydney, Jamie, Michelle, Anthony, Michael, and Trey. He is preceded in death by his parents and by granddaughter Jesse. We will miss him greatly, but are comforted by his joyous reunion with family members that preceded him. Funeral services will be held Fri. July, 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Chapel, 4075 Orchard Ave. in Ogden. Friends and family may call Fri. July 22 from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the church.
