Owen James Orton Obituary (1932 - 2016)

Owen James Orton Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather, and brother, Owen James Orton, passed away on November 4, 2016. Owen was born in the family home on 2100 North in North Ogden, to William H. and Evelyn May Montgomery Orton. He graduated from Weber High School in 1950. He married his high school sweetheart, Norene Burton, on February 11, 1950. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on May 21, 1952. He worked for Ogden City and Weber County Health Departments as an inspector for 32 years, as well as being a meat cutter at Kent's Market in North Ogden. After he retired from the Health Department, he worked for 7 more years for Autoliv. He was faithful in his callings and positions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints while serving on the High Council, High Priest Group Leader, President of the Seventies Quorum, and his diligent service as Bishop of the North Ogden 2nd Ward. He was a quiet, gentle giant and was loved and admired by his family and friends. He was one of the most kind and respected of men in his personal as well as his professional life. He and Norene were blessed with 6 children: Cheryl (Ron) Jones, Ron (Margaret) Orton, Mike (Gwen) Orton, David Orton, Scott Orton, and Suzanne Orton. He leaves behind 20 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his two youngest children, Scott and Suzanne. The family would like to express their deepest thanks to Tracy, Martha, and Bailey, as well as many others from Beehive Homes Assisted Living. We would also like to thank Ina and Justin from Peak Hospice for their unfailing kindness, care, and support he was given in the last few months of his life. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the Cold Water Stake Center, 770 E 2100 N in North Ogden, Utah. A viewing will be held on Friday, November 11 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. and on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 at the church. Interment will be at the Ben Lomond Cemetery.
