LAYTON - Our wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Patricia Anne Freese, 69, died on December 14, 2009 from complications of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP); a devastating brain disease that she courageously battled for nearly seven years. After a full and rich life, she passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones.
Pat was born July 7, 1940 in Washington D.C. to Roy and Priscilla Faircloth. She attended school in Washington D.C. and was a 1958 graduate of Anacostia High. She was a founding member of the DEBS Sorority from which she made many lifelong friends. In 1952 Pat met her paper boy, Wayne Freese, and they soon became sweethearts. "Patsy" (a name reserved only for a special few!) and Wayne were married in 1959 making 2009 their Golden Anniversary. Wayne was the love of her life. Together they shared a 26-year journey with the U.S. Air Force. She was a very proud military wife. During this time they were so lucky to welcome into the world three wonderful daughters.
She held many secretarial positions throughout her career, which included 23 years of Federal Civilian Service in the U.S. and Germany. Prior to her retirement in 1995, Pat was the secretary and personal assistant to the Commander of the 6545th Test Group at Hill AFB. After retiring she worked part-time for Sable Finance. She excelled at all her jobs and was given many performance awards for her efforts.
Her love and dedication for her family and friends enriched the lives of everyone she knew. She was quick-witted with a great sense of humor which earned her the nickname "Brassy Pat." She was always there to lend a helping hand or a shoulder to cry on. Pat loved everyone unconditionally and was a true friend to all.
Pat was a talented seamstress, skilled at crochet, cross-stitch, and other needlework; in addition, she was proficient at crosswords and she loved to read. She shared all this expertise with her girls. "Grandma Pat's" grandchildren also benefited from her talents and enjoyed all the special projects and goodies they made together, especially during the holidays. She spent countless hours sewing flannel pants, repairing sport uniforms, stitching pictures, baking goodies, and cooking for all the members of her family. Pat also loved to watch the Jazz play and attended the games whenever she had the opportunity.
As an avid golfer, she participated in many tournaments with the Hill AFB Ladies Assoc. Her long and straight drives provided great ball position for her team. Pat and Wayne loved to travel with their close friends, hitting new golf courses along the way from Hawaii to Florida. They also bowled for many years on numerous leagues throughout their USAF travels and made lots of friends. Many of their friends over the years have enjoyed the lively card game parties hosted at their home.
Pat and her sister, Judi, had a special bond and were extremely close, even though there was a 6-year age difference and they lived most of their adult lives across the country from each other. We are so thankful that the two of them have had a chance to spend more time together in the past few years.
Pat is survived by her devoted husband, Wayne, and loving daughters and sons-in-law, all of Utah: Su and Lorin Aldous, West Point; Sharon and Kelly Herron, Bountiful; and Carol and Craig Zollinger, Bountiful. She has 5 grandchildren: Brook, MaKenzie, Court, Taylor and Camden; 4 step-grandchildren: Jeremy, Tyler, Brett and Kai; and 9 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister and brother-in-law, Judi and David Isenberg, VA; nephew Doug (Alison) Rima, VA; and other extended family on the East Coast, as well as all her very special friends. Pat's presence will be forever cherished and truly missed. Her spirit, courage and strength will live on forever as a guide and an example to us all.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her in-laws, George and Pauline Freese.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Pat's many close friends for their caring support during her time of need. Also, many thanks to Barbara from Home Comfort Care and the staff at Applegate Hospice; especially Lisa and Heather, for all their compassion and tender care.
