Patricia Johnson Petersen
Roy- Our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend was lovingly embraced as she returned to our Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 24, 2016 after a beautiful and fulfilling life.
Pat was born to loving parents, Donald Butler and Erma Asay Johnson on August 28, 1939 in Ogden, Utah. Although she was raised as an only child after the passing of her sister, her cousin and best friend, Judy Marcroft Farrington, stepped in to feel the void. They remained "sisters" throughout her life. Pat resided in Ogden throughout her childhood, where she attended school and later graduated from Ben Lomond High School and attended Weber State College.
Pat was sealed for eternity to her sweetheart, Charles Keith Petersen in the Logan LDS Temple on November 18, 1961. Through this beautiful union, Pat and Keith raised four wonderful children, Kevin, Jeff, Mike, and Melanie. Her pride and joy was to serve her children and their friends as she embraced her role as a homemaker. She reveled in making her home the life of the party and ensuring that everyone was welcome at the Petersen home. Pat thoroughly enjoyed entertaining family and friends and spent countless hours organizing and hosting parties, where she was able to utilize her many talents. Everyone become a friend and everyone who knew Pat, loved Pat.
After the unexpected death of her daughter, Melanie, she thrusted herself into a new career. She was a vibrant person who enjoyed serving others and her flamboyant personality suited her perfectly for her career as a sales associate for Nordstrom, where she retired after 20 years of service. She prided herself in making sure her customers were always dressed in style. You could be sure that if Pat picked it out, it was always "all the go".
Pat was a valiant and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Throughout her life, she spent much of her time in the Roy 5th Ward, where she supported her husband as he presided as Bishop, and made many lasting friendships. In her youth, Pat was recognized for fulfilling all requirements necessary for obtaining her Young Womanhood Award. The traits and characteristics gained through this venture assisted her throughout her church service, as she served in various capacities in both the Young Women and Relief Society Programs. Pat was a devout disciple of Jesus Christ, who developed a sincere testimony of her Savior and his unwavering love, as she endured both the hardships and triumphs of this life. Her testimony and legacy will live on through her family.
Her life dedication and passion was, and always will be, her children and grandchildren. Pat's desire was to create memories that would last a lifetime. Her love extended beyond words. She devoted all of her time and energy to making each child and grandchild feel uniquely special.
From birthday lunches and cousin sleepovers to sporting events, she always made sure to seize the moment and relish in the treasure of time with her family.
What a glorious reunion it was when she joined her parents, Donald and Erma Johnson, sister Beverly Johnson, her husband Keith, daughter Melanie, grandchildren; Jaclyn and Jace Petersen, and great-grandchild Max Kelson. Those who will miss her as she departed her earthly journey are: her sons Kevin of West Haven, Jeff (Tammy) of West Haven, Michael (Stephanie) of Kaysville; 19 grandchildren, Kyler (Olivia) Petersen, Shalise (Clint) Kelson, Kolby (Amy) Petersen, Bradi (Corey) Nichols, Lupe T'oa, Brooke (Benjamin) Pope, Jordan (Haley) Petersen, Jake (Whitney) Petersen, Kelci Petersen, Alex Petersen, Josh (Kayla) Petersen, Kaitlyn Petersen, Jaxon Petersen, Sam Bankhead, Nick Bankhead, Jenny Petersen, Benjamin Petersen, Emily Petersen; 10 great-grandchildren, Ellie Kelson, Paislee Powers, Emma Nichols, Kapri Petersen, Quinn Kelson, Drexen Petersen, Beckham Nichols, Jett Petersen, and Livvy Kelson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Roy 4th Ward Chapel, 5300 South 2100 West Roy, Utah. A viewing will be held on Friday, July 29, 2016 at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 9:30-10:45 a.m., prior to services. Following the funeral services she will be laid to rest next to her eternal companion at the Roy City Cemetery.
The family would like to extend special thanks not only to those who have cared for Pat these last few months and years, but to all those who have cherished and cared for our sweet Patty throughout her life.
