Paul Summerill

–

North Ogden, Utah

Paul B. Summerill, age 80, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.

Paul was born May 29, 1946, to Lorin and Doris Summerill in Ogden, Utah. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1964. He worked at McDonald’s before enlisting in the United States Army Reserves in 1966. Paul served as a Master Sergeant in the USAR for 28 years.

In 1967, he began his career as a Printer for Ogden Lithograph. After 42 years, he retired in 2010 from the John H. Harland Company, a printing company located in Salt Lake City.

Paul met his future wife in January of 1966. Paul and Sue were married on August 22, 1968. They were married for 58 years. They lived in Ogden before moving to North Ogden in 1971. Paul and Sue had two beautiful children- a son, Todd, and a daughter, Candi.

As a child, Paul enjoyed playing Little League Baseball. During his teen years, his passion changed to cars and racing on the boulevard. Many weekends were spent replacing blown transmissions that resulted from going the gears. Racing on the boulevard came to an end when he temporarily lost his licence for excessive speeding tickets. Paul was a member of the Ogden Cycle Association, where he raced motorcycles. Paul was also an avid skier. He shared his passion for skiing with his children and taught them how to ski the slopes.

Paul had an obsession with tractors that began at a very young age. He owned four lawn tractors during his lifetime. Each one was fitted with a snow blade so they could be utilized year-round. Paul was a handyman at heart. He could fix literally anything with items he had around the house. Old parts were never thrown away because they could be used later instead of buying new. He shared his expansive knowledge of fixing things with his daughter, granddaughter, neighbors, and anyone who wanted to learn.

Spending time with family was very important to Paul. Many weekends were spent going to breakfast with his parents, children, and other family members. He continued this tradition with his daughter and granddaughter. Paul loved to camp with family. Camping adventures started with a camper, transitioned to a trailer, and finally to a motorhome. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, his tote-gote, ATVs, and his RZR.

Paul was very supportive of his children and only granddaughter’s activities. Whether it was driving Todd to the ski slopes, taking Candi to dance, or taking Chloee to school. He was always present for school events, dance recitals, and graduations. Paul was always willing to lend a hand to those who needed it.

Paul will always be remembered for making friends wherever he went, keeping an eye on the neighborhood, and never failing to make everyone laugh. He was great to talk with and a good listener. Paul was easily recognized by his white V-neck T-shirt and jeans, which were his comfortable clothes.

Paul is survived by his wife, Sue; his daughter, Candi S. Benton; his granddaughter, Chloee N. Benton; three brothers; and one sister. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Todd P. Summerill; his sister, Mignon; and brother, Stephen.

Private viewing services for immediate family will be held from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at Myer’s Mortuary on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. Graveside interment will be held at Ben Lomond Cemetery at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local food bank or favorite charity.
