Paul L. Taggart

NORTH OGDEN - Paul Leavitt Taggart, 84 years old, died March 3, 2002 at McKay-Dee Hospital surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Lewiston, Cache County, Utah on June 19, 1917, a son of Frederick Taggart and Eulalie Ardella Leavitt.

He graduated from North Cache High School and attended Utah State Agricultural College. He served a two-year L.D.S. mission to the Western States. He then left Cache Valley and was employed building houses in the Ogden area. During his life he worked on hundreds of houses.

The bombing of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii caused lots of changes. Paul was then employed at HAFB where he worked as a carpenter and was an instructor of both civilian and military personnel.

It was there that he met his wife, Juanita L. Eddy. They were married Dec 17, 1946 in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple. He lived in Ogden and North Ogden from that time to the present.

Paul worked most of his life as a carpenter. Some of the jobs that he worked on were as follows: the concrete plant at Devil's Slide; the McKay-Dee Hospital; the aircraft tower in Taylor, Utah; the Ogden ZCMI building; and the L.D.S. grains elevators in Kaysville, Utah. He helped to install the first escalator in Ogden, Utah; and helped to build the Yacht Club at Pine View Dam. He also helped build nine L.D.S. meeting houses, and the Ogden L.D.S. Tabernacle.

Paul liked horses and he knew a good one when he saw one. He was an unselfish person always putting other people's needs before his own. His most important hobby was loving people. He and his family built a summer cabin in Evergreen Park, located southeast of Powder Mountain Ski Resort. Over 800 friends have been to the cabin to enjoy it.

Family was first in his life; he dearly loved all of his 13 grandchildren and his great grandchild. He was an exceptional and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be missed greatly by all of those who loved him.

He held various church positions: Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School President, High Priest Group Leader, Assistant Ward Clerk, Ward Clerk, First Councilor in the Bishopric, Bishop of the Ogden Third Ward, Executive Secretary of the North Ogden 8th Ward, and he served three Stake missions.

Surviving are his wife, Juanita of North Ogden; three children, Paul Eddy Taggart and wife Addie Thompson of North Ogden; Rodney Ray Taggart and his wife Ann Creager of Mountain Green; and Cheryl Taggart Lewis and her husband Mark Lewis of Farmington, Utah. Also surviving are two sisters and one brother, Myrna Larson of Downey, Idaho; LaRee Scott of North Ogden; and F. Edis Taggart of Lewiston, Utah. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Shannon T. Foster, Shaun, Sheree, Logan, Amber, Tanner, Melinda and Michael Taggart; Angela V.W. Moore, David, Camille and Amy Van Wagoner, Dalan Lewis. Brock Foster is his only great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Walter Taggart; and four sisters, Ruey Hyde, Meleese Taggart, Janette Hodges and Verla Olson.
