Phil Christoffersen, born February 29, 1928 in Brigham City, Utah to Abel Ephraim and Letty Eunice Howard Christoffersen, passed away on his 57th wedding anniversary, September 15, 2006. He grew up on a farm and loved climbing the hills and hunting around Brigham City with his brothers and friends. He married Phyllis Reeder on September 15, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. Looking forward to his Box Elder High School Class of '46 Reunion on September 9, he was diagnosed with lung cancer. One month after, he left behind his family, fishing, golfing and taking care of his yard. Until his sickness he served his family and country tirelessly. He taught us to see and appreciate the beauty of nature.
Phil retired as a Lt. Colonel from the U.S. Army in 1973 and moved to North Ogden where he continued to enjoy the out-of-doors. He served our country by fighting in Korea and Viet Nam and by setting a good example of love and pride in country during peacetime. He loved to read, especially biographies of American heroes. Thanks to the Army he traveled and lived in Germany and the Panama Canal Zone, as well as El Paso, TX, Walnut Creek, CA and Omaha, NE. He was stationed at Fort Sheridan, off Lake Michigan near Chicago when he retired. He loved sports and was a Chicago Cubs fan.
His wife, children and grandchildren will miss him greatly, as well as his neighbors and friends. His children include Jill of Ogden, Alan (Karen) of West Valley, Janet (Clark) Shurtz of Sandy and JoAnn (Jerry) Hall of Plain City. His grandchildren were a great focus of his life. They include (Kristen (Casey) Shurtz Johnson, Randy Clark (Alison) Shurtz, Royden Phil Shurtz, Mary Ruth Shurtz, Alan Lynn Shurtz, Bart, K.C., Jessie Christoffersen, Jed Christopher, Jake Thomas, Josh Johnson, Jance Dylan Hall; his great-grandchildren, Aidan Johnson and Miriam Shurtz added joy to his life. His older brother VeNoy preceded him in death, while his younger brother D. Howard lives in Logan.
This old soldier will not fade away from our hearts.
