Phil "Coxie" B Gomez Obituary (1928 - 2013)

Phil B. Gomez "Coxie" Ogden - Phil B. Gomez "Coxie", 85, passed away on December 23, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 20, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Epfino Gomez and Helen Chacon . He attended Grant Elementary, Central Jr. High and Ogden High School. He served in the Army during WWII . He married Molly Chacon on June 11, 1951 in Del Norte, Colorado. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He retired from Hill Air Force Base as manager of the Commissary Store, he then went to work for Young Chevrolet in Layton in the service dept.; earlier in life he worked at Defense Depot Ogden, White's Construction and Steed Coal Company. Phil was a member of the Chicano Bowling League and an avid pool player. He enjoyed Mexican music, food and culture; also woodworking, fishing, camping, carpentry, yard work and house repairs. He had a heart of gold. He spoke to everyone and always wished them the best. He had many special childhood friends, both deceased and living, and told stories about old times constantly. He never forgot anyone. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Molly; daughter, Christina Morales (Jose F.); 2 granddaughters, Monica Shelstead (Timothy) and Adrianna Morales and 2 great-grandchildren, Dominique Shelstead and Victoria Josephina Shelstead. Also survived by his 3 sisters, Virginia Gomez, Rosalie Mitchell and Cecilia Gomez and his nephew, Louie Gomez. He was preceded in death by his parents; several brothers and sisters and his Aunt Josephine Mendez. Special thanks to Stu Johnson, his attorney and friend who held a special place in his heart and was considered part of the family. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 514 - 24th Street. A viewing will be held on Monday, December 30th at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment, Myers Evergreen Memorial Park.
