Phyllis Ruth Cap Obituary (1920 - 2003)

PHYLLIS RUTH - BROWN- CAP; May 24, 1920 - August 23, 2003 Phyllis Ruth Brown Cap passed away 23 August, 2003, at Rocky Mountain Care, Clearfield, Utah. She was born 24 May, 1920, in Lucas, Kansas, to Ira E. and Grace M. (Jordan) Brown. She was raised by her beloved Aunt Bess and Uncle Harry (Elizabeth and Harry L. Mansfield) just two blocks from Ira and Grace. She enjoyed the benefit of two sets of loving parents. Phyllis married George W. Cap 3 May, 1942, at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Lucas, Kansas. They have been married over 61 beautiful years. She often referred to herself as a "camp follower" due to her extensive travel with her husband as he was transferred to many bases during his early training with the United States Air Force. She was a constant companion to her husband during his long Air Force career and is looked upon as a dear friend and mentor by the many military wives she supported and consoled. She was with George in the Philippines when he served his tour of duty in Viet Nam as a squadron commander, as she bolstered the spirits of the young wives of his air crews. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, yet able to contribute her talents to a busy schedule of volunteer activities at VA Hospitals and Air Force Base Thrift Shops. Phyllis was active, to the time of her death, at the Thrift Shop at Hill Air Force Base, where she had many close and dear friends. Phyllis is a Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, a life member of the Lucas Methodist Church, The Royal Neighbors of America, the Hill Air Force Base Officers Wives Club, and the Humane Society of the United States. Phyllis is survived by her loving husband George W. Cap, Col. USAF (Ret.) and her son Kelly William of Layton, Ut.; two endeared sisters, Geraldine Brown of Lucas, Kansas, and Alice de Bord of Canton, Ohio; two nephews Jerry (Vickie) Brown of Overland Park, Kansas and Timothy (Rosa) de Bord of Schererville, Indiana, and a niece Elizabeth (Robert) Donahue of Columbus, Ohio.
