Randy Scott Neilson Obituary (1958 - 2015)

Randy S. Neilson August 3, 1958 - October 14, 2015 Randy Scott Neilson, 57, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at the McKay-Dee Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 3, 1958, in Ogden, Utah, to Robert and Leah Seely Neilson. His family moved to Roy, Utah, in 1961. Randy attended Roy City schools and graduated from Roy High School in 1976. He married his best friend and the love of his life, Katie Ashby Neilson, on April 23, 1981. They were the proud parents of two children, Rusty and Mandy. Randy was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He worked at the Lee K. Hansen Construction Company for several years. At the time of his death, he was employed at Hill Air Force Base, where he had completed 34 years of dedicated service. Randy loved spending time outdoors with family and friends. He especially enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and playing golf. One of his favorite pastimes was gardening, and the tomatoes he raised each summer were legendary. Randy is survived by his wife, Katie of Roy; son, Rusty (Amber) Neilson of Plain City, and daughter Mandy (J.C.) Malone of Hooper. He is also survived by his mother, Leah Neilson of Roy; sisters, Tammy Garner of Roy, Julie (Kelly) Skidmore of West Haven and Lisa Neilson of Roy; in-laws, R.J. "Spud" and Jeri Ashby of South Ogden, Teri Nimtz, Kim and Jerry Ward, and several nieces and nephews. The light of his life were his grandchildren: Treyson and Macie Malone and Robert Jay "Robby" Neilson. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Neilson; his grandparents, and his dear friend, Debbie. Randy was a jack-of-all trades and could fix anything. He was known for his sense of humor, his extremely generous nature, and his boundless love for his family, friends and co-workers. He also held a special place in his heart for animals. The family would like to thank the ICU staff and Life Flight at McKay-Dee Hospital for their exceptional and sincere compassionate care. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West, Roy, Utah. Friends may visit with family on Monday, October 19, 2015, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and on Tuesday, from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services. Interment in the West Weber Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Randy's love for children, the family suggests donations be made for special care of Mackenna Howard, in whose name an account has been set up at any America First Credit Union.
