Randall L. Washburn

The world lost a great cowboy when Randall (Randy) L. Washburn, Sr. passed away April 28, 2010. He was surrounded by his loving wife and three children.

Randy was born August 13, 1942 in Monterrey, California to Pearl Pickard Washburn and the late Edgar J. Washburn. When Randy was four years old, his mother met and married Howard Gall, the man he would call "Pop" through his life. His family lived in Elma, Washington near his maternal grandparents who were a great influence in his life. When Randy was ten years old, he moved to Brooklyn, New York where he spent the majority of his adolescence. He completed his schooling there and was actively involved in athletics where he excelled in track and baseball. He was almost signed with the Philadelphia Phillies when he sustained a shoulder injury that ended his pitching career. From there he got into boxing, fighting 27 fights in the New York area with the Golden Gloves.

In 1964 Randy joined the US Army and served his country proudly, including a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1966-1967.

In 1970, Randy met his sweetheart and soul mate, Bonnie Higgins, in Durham, North Carolina, and after three short months of dating they were married on September 18, 1970. This year marks their 40 year anniversary. Bonnie was Randy's whole life. They had an extraordinary love story.

Randy and Bonnie had three children: Randy Jr., Jennifer, and Courtney. Their children were all very close to Randy and feel so blessed to have him as their father and hero.

Randy worked as a Project Superintendent on commercial construction projects. It was his work that brought him and his family West where they lived for the past 32 years. He was an extremely hard worker and loyal employee for such companies as Big-D Construction, Oakland Construction and most recently C & A Construction, which he retired from in January 2009.

Randy's favorite pastime was raising and riding horses and mules. He loved being outdoors and on the trails with his animals. He was a member of The Backcountry Horsemen, Wasatch Front Chapter. His motto was, "So many mules, so little time."

Randy believed and loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all his heart, body and soul. He loved attending and felt he belonged at Washington Heights Baptist Church.

Randy is survived by his adoring wife, Bonnie, of Taylor; his son, Randy Jr. (Denise), of Clinton; his daughter, Jennifer (Jon), of Lake Oswego, Oregon; and his daughter, Courtney (Anthony), of Ogden. He has eight grandchildren: Brandon, Justin, Olivia, Hannah, Celena, Molly, Maxwell, and Ian. He is also survived by his sister, Peggy (Budd) Hoffner, of North Carolina. His family dearly loved and respected him. He will be greatly missed. We are grateful for the knowledge that he is breathing, riding and resting with God.

The family wishes to thank the many staff and doctors at McKay-Dee Hospital who took such great care of Randy
