Ray L. Edwards Obituary (1932 - 2013)

Ray L. Edwards, age 81, of Layton, died July 19, 2013. He was born on May 6, 1932, in Asbury, Missouri, the son of Leslie and Eunice Edwards. The family moved to Arizona in 1948, where he lived until 2012 when he moved to Utah. As a child, he learned to work on heavy equipment from his father to whom he attributed his work ethic and his natural mechanical ability. He was a member of International Union of Operating Engineers and worked as a heavy equipment mechanic until he retired in 1994. His attention to detail was unequalled; he was ingenious and could fix just about anything. He took pride in every job and was a true perfectionist. Later in life he became an avid golfer. He married Norma Jean Gardner in 1959 and was a devoted, loving husband. Norma passed away in 1994. He remarried, and his second wife, Grace Palendat, passed away in 2003. He was also preceded in death by four siblings: Rex, Vera, Lloyd, and Kay. Ray is survived by his son, Michael Edwards (Janie) of Clearfield, Utah; his granddaughter, Kelley Harp (Eric) of Danville, Arkansas; a grandson, Roy Edwards (Greta) of Casa Grande, Arizona; and six great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind two sisters, Carol Rosinke (Ron), Vickie Edwards, and two brothers, Lee Edwards (Jo Beth) and Lynn Edwards. Ray served our country in the Navy during the Korean War. We thank the doctors and staff of Davis Hospital for their stellar services, caring attitude, and valiant efforts. Ray requested that there be no formal services, so we will honor his request and hold his memory in our hearts. He will be cremated at Myers Mortuary in Layton and, as he requested, will join Norma to be buried at a later date.
