Ray Darrel Thompson

SUNSET - Ray D. Thompson, 85, passed away in a tragic accident Monday, October 1, 2012.

He was born April 23, 1927, in Kanesville, Utah, to Charles Henry and Ada Ann Perry Thompson. He attended Kanesville Elementary and Weber High School.
Ray was a veteran serving in the Navy at Pearl Harbor during WWII.

After serving in the military, he met Evelyn "Venus" Barnes at the Clearfield Naval Base. They married on April 5, 1951, in Roy, Utah. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple April 13, 1955. They bought their home in Sunset where they resided and raised their family. Venus passed away December 30, 2001.
Ray was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had served as ward clerk for 25 years.

He was in the Civil Air Patrol during the 1950's. He worked at Hill Air Force Base for 37 years. He loved to travel with his family and play cards with his friends on Tuesday's. Ray loved airplanes and flew them in his younger years.

Surviving are his children: Brian (Pat) Thompson, Hanover, PA; Ron (Diana) Thompson, Syracuse, UT; Debbie (Dean) Keller, Rexburg, ID; Julie (Charles) Cordova, Belton, TX; 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and sister, Marcella Muirbrook, Ogden, UT.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Larry Ray Thompson, grandsons Patrick, Brian, and Shane Thompson, brothers and sisters Zelda, Elwood, Les, and Delwin Thompson, Duella Kartchner, Thelma Hoggan, and Carol Thompson.

Special thanks to the Rawsons, his home teachers, for taking such good care of him when we couldn't always be there.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 5, 2012, at 11 a.m., at the Sunset 1st Ward Chapel, 2431 North 250 West, Sunset. A visitation will be held Thursday at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Friday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services.

Interment, Roy City Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded.
