Reid L. Thompson Obituary (1927 - 2001)

REID L. THOMPSON BRIGHAM CITYa" loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Reid L. Thompson, 73, passed away Monday, August 13, 2001. Reid was born December 6, 1927 in Garland, Utah. He was the son of Leland J. and Mary W. Thompson. He married Alene Smoot, September 16, 1954, in the Logan Temple. Reid graduated form Bear River High and Utah State University. He was a member of the United States Army, where he served in the Korean War. At the conclusion of the war he graduated top in his flight school class. Later he was called to service during the Berlin Crisis. Reid continued to fly as a helicopter and fixed wing pilot for the Utah National Guard retiring as a Major after 22 years of service to his country. His community involvement covered a wide scope of service, including past president of Jaycee's, Kiwanis International and Rotary International. He served on the Box Elder County planning commission and Chamber of Commerce. Reid was employed by the State of Utah for 35 years. He retired as manager of Job Service in Brigham City. He was an active member of the Brigham City 10th Ward, where he served in many positions, including Bishop and Stake High Council. He was currently serving as an officiator at the Ogden Temple. His hobbies and interests include carpentry, flying, traveling, snowmobiling and riding ATV.s with his family. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren at the cabin he built in Island Park, Idaho. Reid is survived by his wife Alene of Brigham City, children, Jennifer (Robert) Morley, Sandy, UT, Cindy Lee ( William) Marshall, Brigham City, UT, Todd (Stacie) Thompson, Perry, UT and 10 grandchildren, sister Alice (Wayne) Weidman, brothers, Neil (Joyce) Thompson and Gordon (Sandy) Thompson. Preceded in death by his parents, grandson Christopher McKay Morley and son-in-law William Marshall. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 16, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the Brigham City 10th Ward Chapel, 145 W. 500 S. Friends may call Wednesday, August 15, 2001 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City and Thursday, August 16, 2001 from 10:00 to 10:40 at the church. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
