Rhea Olive Stevens Obituary (1915 - 2003)

RHEA D. STEVENS ROY - Rhea D. Stevens, 87, died April 10, 2003 at her home due to complications of diabetes. She was born December 17, 1915 in Morgan, Utah to Walter E. and Lettie R. Drummond. She received her formal education at Morgan and graduated from Morgan High School in 1934. She was married to G. Glen Stevens in 1934 and they were together 63 years until his death in 1997. Rhea worked as a teacher's aide in the Roy school system for many years and attended Weber College with the intention of becoming a teacher. She quit both when Glen lost his sight and needed her help at home. She was a kind and gentle soul who was never judgmental and who worried more about others than she ever did about herself. She always found room for someone needing a place to stay and it was not unusual for her home to be filled with grandchildren and their friends wanting to have a sleep-over at "grandma's." Rhea was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She loved reading and doing handiwork and rarely sat down without picking up a book or something to knit, sew, or crochet. She was known for her handmade quilts and over the years there were often people standing in line hoping their quilt would be the next to be mounted on her quilting frame. She was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities in most organizations. Most of all she loved to teach. Rhea is survived by her six children: Robert L. (Ann) Stevens of Allyn, Washington; RaeDell (David) Rigby, Richmond Utah; Sheryl (Roger) Rawson, Hooper, Utah; Carole (Gene) Mitchell, Sunset, Utah; Susan (Rob) Ritchie, Roy, Utah; and Julie (David) McIntire, Clearfield, Utah; 30 grandchildren and 51 2/3 great grandchildren. She will be missed for her gentle, loving, and caring way, but we are comforted to know that she just began her 64th year with Glen.
