Richard Evans Creer
Richard Evans Creer, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones, on December 6, 2015.
Rich was born to Roger Bradford and Norma Evans Creer on September 28, 1945 in Ogden, Utah. The youngest of four children, Rich's youth was filled with fun and laughter. Rich's sense of humor and generous personality drew others to him. His many friends were always welcome in his home, and from Polk School to Ogden High School, they had endless adventures together. Rich loved music, always making sure to have the newest hit record. He had a deep love of horses, and as a member of the Mt. Ogden Junior Posse could often be found riding through the foothills of Ogden.
After graduation from Ogden High School in 1963, he attended Weber State College, earning a B.A. in Political Science. During college, Rich enjoyed the social life as much as his classroom learning and gained even more lasting friendships. He served as president of Excelsior Club, Senior Class Vice-President, and "played college ball" by bowling for Weber State's team. He went on to earn a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Brigham Young University. His love of learning and dedicated study habits continued throughout his life.
During and after school, he invested in real estate rental properties with friends and earned his real estate agent's license. These experiences set the course for his life's work. He later became the principal broker for his own company and earned numerous achievement awards. What he loved most about his career was the interactions he had with people.
Rich married Shari-Lynne Richards in the Salt Lake Temple on February 24, 1972. He was an incredible husband and father and his positive, faith-filled approach to life leaves a lasting legacy for his four children and ten grandchildren. He taught them to be kind and to always keep smiling. Shari and Rich enjoyed traveling and entertaining friends and family. Their joy was being together, knowing that their lives with one other would be a blessing for eternity.
Service was an important part of Rich's life and he championed causes both big and small. He constantly strived to improve his community and he especially enjoyed his affiliation with the Rotary Club, serving as president of that organization. While continuing to volunteer with numerous boards and associations over the years, he dedicated much of his most influential service to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His testimony was unwavering, and after fulfilling a mission in Germany he went on to serve in many leadership roles. Though he enjoyed working with all, he had a special place in his heart for the youth and his influence was felt by many throughout the years.
Surviving are his wife of Ogden and children, Joelle (Moses) Vargas of Simsbury, CT, Jodi (Jeremy) Booth of Eden, UT, Richard Todd (Stephanie) Creer of Las Vegas, NV and Alexis Creer of New York, NY, along with his grandchildren Zachary, Alexander, Chandler, Sophia, Claire, Charlotte, Jackson, Abigail, Spencer, and Logan.
He is also survived by his sister Elaine Bird (Richard deceased) and Carl R. Creer (Bonnie) and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Norma Harbertson, and brother-in-law Robert B. Harbertson.
