Richard was a happy young man, made lots of Friends and was kind to everyone he met. He attended Junior High and High School at Wasatch High School in Heber City. He graduated in May, 1959. He never missed a dance or ballgame until his junior year. He was decorating for his Junior Prom and fell from a ladder and broke his left leg. He missed his dance. While in High School he worked for his Dad at the Palace Drug and attended Stephen's Heneger Business College. In 1963 served an LDS mission to Southern California. Because of illness he came home early and went back to work for his Dad. He married ReNae Strobridge in Provo and they had one son Harley Don Hiatt.
In 1976, he moved to Las Vegas and worked at The Deseret Inn casino. He worked there for 15 years. After a divorce in 1984, he had mental problems and moved from job to job. In 2004 he left Las Vegas and moved to West Point, Utah to live with his sister and brother-in-law. Eventually decided to attend Church. First was Sacrament Meeting, then went to Sunday School and he then finished the 3-hour block. Richard made many friends in West Point.
