Richard H Long

–

Ogden, Utah

Richard H. Long, born to the world on the 5th of July 1943 in the great state of Ohio, and having stubbornly stuck around for 81 years, finally decided to call it quits this September 4th, 2024. Richard, who was a true adventurer at heart, lived in several places including Ohio and Green River Wyoming, before finally parking his boots in Ogden, Utah, where he resided for 66 years. The man was as resilient as a cactus in a desert, having retired in 2007 after a fulfilling career in the Shell Oil Fields and as a sheet metal worker for Flamco/Barnes.
Richard was not one to sit idly post-retirement. He was a man of many talents and hobbies. He was just as comfortable strumming a bass in his garage band as he was doing leatherwork. He was ambitious in his fishing, hunting, and camping pursuits, often joking that the only thing that bit him more than the fish was the camping bug. As a proud member of the Sheriff's Mounted Posse, Richard was known to ride with a gleam in his eye and a grin on his face. As Mark Twain once said, "The secret of success is making your vocation your vacation," and Richard embodied this quote to its fullest.
Richard was a fiercely independent soul, living his life to the fullest and on his own terms. He was loyal to his roots and to his loved ones. His resilience, loyalty, and ambition made him a pillar in his family and community. Richard is survived by his daughters, Julie Tyler and Christine Anderson; and his sons, Damon Long and Cody Johnson. He now joins his parents, Herman Long and Nellie Hamlyn-Long, on the other side, where we hope the fishing is good and the camping is bug-free.
So, here's to Richard H. Long, a man who lived, loved, and left on his own terms. To remember Richard is to remember a man who truly embodied the spirit of adventure and resilience. Please feel free to share your memories and upload photos to his memorial page. After all, a man is not dead while his name is still spoken. Let's keep Richard's spirit alive, one story at a time.
