Wellsville, Utah
Ricky Tod Florence, 60, of Wellsville, Utah, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2026, at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, surrounded by his family and loved ones, following a sudden and tragic medical emergency.
Ricky Tod was born on July 15, 1966, in Ogden, Utah, to Larry and Evonne Florence. He was the third of eight siblings and spent his life finding adventure, making memories, and making people laugh.
In early 1991, he met Joanna “Joey” Lynn King, and the two were sealed in the Logan, Utah, Temple that same year. Together, they built a family of seven children: six sons, Tyler, Nathan, Samuel, Jakob, Zackary, and Dallon, and their daughter, Isabel, who joined the family in 2013. In time, Ricky Tod became a proud grandpa to four beautiful grandchildren, Gracie, Ellie, Charlette, and Sage, who brought even more love and joy into his life.
Ricky Tod loved his family. He loved hunting with his dad and brothers, riding horses, going boating, and pretty much anything that gave him an excuse to be outside. He loved a good sunset and finding those moments in nature where you could just stop for a second and take it all in. He had a big heart and was always willing to help the people he loved however he could.
In 2008, his sense of adventure took him on the road for work, traveling all over the United States and eventually around the world. He and Joey traveled throughout the country and to Singapore, with Australia being one of his favorite adventures. But no matter where he went, Ricky Tod had a way of making himself at home. He never met a stranger, and it didn't take long for a stranger to become a friend.
If you knew Ricky Tod, you knew he was a goofball. He was the life of the party, the family jokester, and a world-class teaser. He loved giving his siblings and kids a hard time, usually with a grin on his face and a joke ready to go. His favorite comeback was, “You mess with the bull, you get the horn.” Of course, that worked a little better before his sons got big enough to start giving him a taste of his own medicine.
He had a way of making people laugh, even when they probably shouldn't have been laughing, and of turning ordinary moments into memories people would talk about for years. He wasn't just someone who showed up to a gathering. He was someone who made the gathering. His laughter, his teasing, and his larger-than-life personality will be missed more than words can say.
Even in the face of an unexpected and heartbreaking ending, Ricky Tod's big heart remained. He reaffirmed his decision to be an organ donor, giving others the opportunity for healthier lives and more time with the people they love. It's a final act of generosity that will allow a part of him to live on in ways that words cannot fully express.
Ricky Tod is survived by his mother, Evonne Florence; his wife, Joanna “Joey” Florence; his seven children, Tyler, Nathan, Samuel (Daisy), Isabel (Jeffery), Jakob, Zackary (Bailey), and Dallon; and his four grandchildren, Gracie, Ellie, Charlette, and Sage. He is also survived by his seven siblings, Kim (Debbie), Cheri, Trent (Lindsi), Matt (Penny), Vickie (Dana), Tiffany (Steve), and Holly (Dave), along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved him.
Ricky Tod leaves behind a family who loves him, stories that will be told for generations, and more than a few people who will probably hear his voice in their heads the next time they get caught giving someone a hard time.
He was a husband, a dad, a grandpa, a son, a brother, and a friend. He was an adventurer, a jokester, a helper, and a man who loved his people. There will never be enough time with someone you love, and we wish we had more. But we are grateful for the time we had, the memories we made, and the love he leaves behind.
