Robert Williams Daines Obituary (1927 - 2012)

Robert William Daines March 10, 1927- March 18, 2012 BRIGHAM CITY- Judge Robert William Daines, 85, after a short illness passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the University of Utah Hospital with his loving family by his side. Robert (Bob) was born in Washington D. C. on March 10th, 1927 a son of Newel G and Verna Rainey Daines. He grew up in Logan and received his education in Logan. He graduated from Utah State University and received his L.L.B./J.D. from American Law School in Washington D.C. He was a Navy Veteran from WWII serving in the medical corp in Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. He served a Norwegian Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On December 21st in 1951 he married Aud Kari Olsen from Kongsberg, Norway in the Idaho Falls Temple. After law school he served as a law clerk with the Utah Supreme Court. Then moved to Brigham City and started practicing law. He served as a City Attorney for Brigham City and later was elected District Attorney for the First District. He served as a Judge for 25 years. He was President of the Board of Circuit Court Judges 1986-1989 and remained a Senior Judge in all jurisdictions of the state until he was 75 years old. Bob's love for the gospel was expressed in his years of service as a lifetime missionary. He also served as a ward clerk, High Priest Group Leader and from 1980-2011 he served in name Extraction for the Church Genealogy, in Norwegian and Danish and Swedish. His love for Norway continued throughout his life. He and Kari visited Norway many times and were involved with the Norwegian saints in the U.S. and Norway. They were hosts for the 2002 Norwegian Olympic Team. Surviving are his wife Aud Kari, his three children; Heidi Palmer (Brad) of Newport Beach, CA; Robert William Jr. (Kelly) of Brigham City and Karl Erik (Karen) of Syracuse. He has 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is survived by all of his 10 siblings, Beulah (Vern deceased) Petersen, Newel George Jr. (Jean); Patricia (Duane) Chadwick; Janet McCowin, David (Ronna); Paul (Allene); Helen (Jack deceased) Harvath; Jonathan (Elaine); Samuel (Margaret); Stephen. Funeral Services will be Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 12 noon, at the Brigham City 8th Ward Chapel, 139 E. 300 N., Brigham City. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Church. Interment to follow at the Brigham City Cemetery. The Daines' Family wishes to thank all those who have offered their time and comfort during the past 6 weeks.
