Robert Fish

–

Roy, Utah

Robert Hugh Fish, 78, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2024 in Clinton, Utah with his wife by his side.

He was born April 8, 1946 to Harold and LaRene Fish in Ferron, Utah and was the youngest of their three sons. He grew up helping on the family farm, working his own paper route, and acting as a typist for his mother’s college papers. He started delivering newspapers first on a horse, then on his red bicycle that he bought with his earnings.

He graduated from Emery County High School in 1964 (the second class to graduate) and earned an Associate’s degree from Snow College in 1966. He then served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Southwest Indian Mission (Arizona and New Mexico) from 1966-1968. After his mission, Robert attended Utah State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in soils.

Robert started his career with the National Resources Conservation Service (formerly Soil Conservation Service) in Morgan, Utah. His career took him and his family to many areas of Utah, including Nephi, Spanish Fork, Fillmore, Price, and Roosevelt. He retired with honor in 2009 after more than 40 years of service with NRCS. He traveled many places in the state of Utah to map soils. He also served on the state NRCS civil rights committee as the disability specialist after breaking his hip in 1992. Serving on this committee gave him the chance to travel to Washington D.C. three times and many other places around the country.

In early 1974, he met Deanna Egbert in Nephi, Utah and was soon smitten. He proposed on April Fool’s Day and brought her roses the next day so that Deanna knew he was serious. They were sealed in the Ogden Utah Temple on July 11, 1974. They just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past summer. Together, they raised four daughters, Loriann, Carolyn, Teresa, and Kristie, instilling in them the importance of education and the gospel of Jesus Christ. Three of his four daughters followed him to Snow College, one followed him to Utah State University, and all four daughters have university degrees.

Robert and Deanna moved to Roy, Utah in 2017 from Roosevelt, after 30 years in the Uintah Basin. They wanted to be nearer their daughters, who all settled on the Wasatch Front.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ, Robert served in various callings throughout his life, including Elders’ Quorum counselor and secretary, ward financial clerk, Sunday School president and counselor, High Priests Group secretary, and building representative. He also briefly served as a temple worker in the Vernal Utah Temple and supported Deanna in her calling as a temple organist and ordinance worker.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents Harold and LaRene Fish; parents-in-law Clarence and Reba Egbert; brothers Bruce Fish and Don Fish; sister-in-law Gwen Fish, brother-in-law Gordon Egbert, and two nephews.

He is survived by his wife Deanna Fish; daughters Loriann Fish, Carolyn Fish, Teresa (Scott) Rodgers, and Kristie Fish; grandchildren, Emma, Josh, Michael, and Connor Rodgers; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

We will miss him so much, but we are comforted that he is his whole self again. We know he was greeted in Heaven by both his parents and his parents-in-law, Clarence and Reba Egbert. He has been missing his mom for a very long time.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 16 2024, at the Roy 2nd Ward chapel, 5127 South 2400 West, Roy, Utah at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing from 9:30-10:30 a.m. There will also be a viewing at Myers Mortuary, 5865 S 1900 W, Roy, Utah, on Friday, November 15 2024, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Clinton City Cemetery.
