Robert Eamor Nord, 77, died on December 29, 2022, at his home in Gilbert, AZ, from complications of pulmonary fibrosis. Born on April 11, 1945, in Ogden, UT to Ella Winkler Nord and Eamor Carroll Nord, he grew up in Berkeley, CA, graduating from El Cerrito HS (1963). He holds a BS in Geology from Brigham Young University (1969) and a J.D. from the University of Chicago (1972). He practiced law in Chicago (1972 - 2002), principally as a partner of Hinshaw & Culbertson in Chicago in the fields of antitrust, litigation and health law. A highlight of his professional career came when he and a colleague argued a case before the US Supreme Court.

Robert met Sherryl Anne Smith at Brigham Young University. They were married on May 15, 1969, in the Salt Lake City Temple. They were married for 53 years and worked side by side raising their six children, remodeling their home at 481 Woodlawn, serving in the church, and traveling the world. During the final months of his life, he regularly told Sherryl that she was the best part of his life.

He was a member of North Shore 1st Ward in Wilmette, IL serving in various positions, including cub scout leader, stake high councilor, and bishop. After retirement, he served the Church as Associate International Legal Counsel in Moscow, Russia and Frankfurt, Germany (2005-2006).

Robert loved the outdoors. As a college student, he spent a summer working as a trail guide at the Grand Canyon. He honeymooned with Sherryl backpacking the Rocky Mountains. Later adventures Robert and Sherryl enjoyed included hiking the Milford Trek in New Zealand, white water rafting the Zambezi River in Zimbabwe, scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef, and going on several safaris in Africa.

Robert also loved the historical and cultural destinations. He took his family to many Revolutionary and Civil War sites. He visited the pyramids in Egypt, Machu Picchu in Peru, the Taj Mahal in India, the Great Wall of China, the Acropolis in Greece, and Angkor Wat in Cambodia. His favorite cities were London, Paris, and Chicago. Throughout his life he and Sherryl visited more than 90 countries and 49 states.

The son of a veteran, Robert loved the history and courage found in the battles and wars the US had fought. His interests included reading and watching documentaries and movies about the battles, most especially World War II.

He is survived by his wife Sherryl (nee Smith), and children; Kimberly Nord, Ryan (Camie) Nord, Debra (Brad) Kempton, Heather Nord, Andrew (Jessica) Nord, Elizabeth (Heath) Sorensen, and 17 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister (Beth).
