R. Gary Sorensen Obituary (1937 - 2009)

R. Gary Sorensen R. Gary Sorensen, 72, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at home with his loving wife by his side. He was born in Ogden, UT on March 26, 1937 a son of Philip H. Sorensen and Vera Calvert Hunter Sorensen. He married the love of his life and best friend, Jane Ralphs on September 28, 1956. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Ogden LDS Temple. They were blessed with two wonderful daughters. Gary was proud of being part of the 2nd graduating class of Ben Lomond High School. He thoroughly enjoyed golfing with his wife and many dear friends, loved to fish, and kept an immaculate yard. Most important was his love for his family and friends who treasure their many memories of him. He retired from Hill Air Force Base as a Systems Analyst in 1993. He loved the North Ogden Mountain LDS Ward and was so grateful for their acceptance, love and support. He was a dedicated and loving husband to his wife, Jane, and a very amazing and supportive father to his two daughters, Carrie Larsen (Doug) of St. George, UT and Nannette VanderDoes (Mark) of Clearfield, UT. His grandchildren, Mindy Arrington (Chad), Matthew Monkres, Derek Monkres, Katie Murray (Dean), Michael VanderDoes, and Scott VanderDoes, adored their grandfather. He was their hero. He was an awesome "Grandpa Great" to Taylee, Carson, Kaden, Lexi, and Dax. He is also survived by his brother, James Boyd Sorensen and sister, Joyce Sorensen Penman. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Philip Dean Sorensen, and sister, Vera Sorensen Pearson. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden. Friends may call at the mortuary on Wednesday, April 29th from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 5600 S. 1718 Combe Rd., South Ogden.
