Roma Crockett Valentine Obituary (1917 - 2003)

ROMA CROCKETT CARTER VALENTINE After suffering from dementia, Roma Valentine, 86, quietly passed away on December 22, 2003 at the Peach Tree Assisted Living Center in West Haven, Utah. Roma was born in Provo, Utah, March 21, 1917, the fourth of five children born to Henry Wallace Crockett and Mary Ann Turner Crockett. Roma grew up in Logan, Utah and later moved to Los Angeles with her family where she married Harold John Carter in 1940. They raised their five children in LaHabra Heights and Yucaipa, California. Harold passed away in 1981 and she later married Dee J. Valentine of Mission Viejo, California in 1984. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she served in many callings, including an 18-month temple mission with Dee J in both the Swiss and Frankfurt Temples. Roma was a dedicated homemaker and mother, taught hula, loved swimming, ballroom dancing and traveling. After high school she attended Utah State College and later was a graduate of Brigham Young University (graduated when she was in her sixties!!). As children we remember the dance festivals and many road shows she sewed costumes for and directed. We were loved and taught to try to find the good in others. Surviving are her husband, Dee J Valentine; two sisters, Mildred Gibson of Laguna Niguel, CA and Flora Dann (Lauren) of Mission Viejo; five children, Harold Courtley Carter (Beverly), Robin Jamiel Bailey (Durk), Jilanie Forbes (Don), Rondi Winston Carter (Jeanne) and Forrest Devin Carter (JaNene); 24 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Roma was preceded in death by her sister Virginia Eggers.
