Ogden - R. George Smith, 84, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on November 19, 2012. He was born April 12, 1928 in Logan, Utah to Joseph Llewellyn and Olive Hamp Smith. George was raised and attended school in the Logan area, graduating from Logan High and attended Utah State University. George was baptized a member of the LDS Church in Logan, Utah on June 1, 1936. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; infant twin brother (Donald); three brothers and granddaughter, Wendy Lea Bideaux.

George married Eldora Bell July 10, 1948 in Colinston, UT. She preceded him in death on march 30, 1997. They are survived by their children, Kristen I (Steve) Bideaux of South Ogden, Ronald (Cheryl) of Winnsboro, TX, Bruce (Stacey) of Roy and Karin L. (Kevin) Ottman of West Jordan. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. George later enjoyed a ten year marriage to a high school friend, Denise Adams (surviving). They divided their time between St. George and Ogden.

George served in the US Army during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was heavily involved with missile control and retired after 22 years of service. Through his military career he and his family enjoyed service opportunities in several parts of the world, including Japan, Taiwan, Panama and several US States. He finished his working career as a sales person at Terry Trailer, a business owner of Auto Trailer Land, and concluding in sales management with Western Truck Sales.

George loved to golf, collect clowns, grow tomatoes and flowers. He and his family enjoyed annual trips to mountainous vacation spots, swimming in the backyard pool and gatherings on Christmas Eve. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing especially with the grandsons.

Graveside services will be held at 11a.m. on Monday, November 26, 2012 at Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. A viewing will be held prior at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
