Our feisty, independent, spunky, and loving mother, sister, and aunt, Rowene Armstrong Radabaugh, passed away December 5, 2022, in Ogden, Utah. She was 80 years old.
Rowene was born to Edward Rawson Armstrong and Vera J. Larkin on September 9, 1942, in Brigham City, Utah.
Rowene married Neil Radabaugh and their union was blessed with two children. They were later divorced.
She worked at the Emerson Stone branch Weber Library for several years, and she loved working the Christmas season at Rainbow Gardens. She had a long and successful career starting in Traffic Management for the Defense Depot of Ogden from 1966 until she retired from Hill Air Force Base in 2011 as the Transportation Officer. She volunteered for the 2002 Winter Olympics, and also at the Egyptian Theatre for many years until COVID limited her work.
Besides these basic facts about her life, those who knew Rowene would say she was a very interesting woman.
Seeing all the corners of this beautiful world was one of her many passions. Some of her most treasured memories were made while touring the Taj Mahal in India, walking atop the Great Wall of China, scouring the markets of the Philippeans, exploring the Outback of Australia, and volunteering at an orphanage in Peru.
Rowene was an amazing seamstress who could look at a dress and then recreate it. She made outfits for the Ben Lomond Bonnie Lassies Drill Team, tailored prom dresses for her daughter (always with pockets so she could carry her lip gloss and change for the pay phone - just in case), and was the go-to for friends and family who needed any type of alterations.
The back pew at church was reserved for her, but that doesn't mean her faith took a back seat in life. She served for many years as the secretary of the Relief Society, and always mailed a birthday card to every sister in the ward. She was the Compassionate Service Leader. She loved attending the temple.
Other things Rowene loved included fireworks and parades. She was the family's designated spot holder at Ogden's 24th of July parade for decades. She never missed the Pop's Concert and fireworks at Weber State.
She was an avid reader and loved learning about people from all over the world and every walk of life. Then she loved to share and discuss those books with others.
To her nieces and nephews (and even their children) Rowene was a bit like Peter Pan in that she never wanted to grow up. Her home was full of toys and treasures and always a little treat when the kids came to visit. They will fondly recall her Nerf sword battles, autumn leaf fights, and her larger than life Energizer Bunny. Christmas just won't be the same without a bucket of caramel worms from Aunt Rowene.
She had an enormous heart and a love and appreciation for the simple things in life. Her musical giggle made the world a better place.
Rowene is survived by her children Mike (Liz) Radabaugh and Susan Radabaugh, siblings Darlene (Jim) Allen and Jim (Bettie) Armstrong.
