Ruben Mora Mendez

ROY - Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Ruben Mora Mendez, 84, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2008 peacefully at his home.

Ruben was born to Jose and Pilar Mendez on September 19, 1924 in Corinne, Utah. He was educated in Box Elder County.

On June 5, 1943 he was inducted into the United States Army. He was a Veteran of Four European Campaigns during WWII. He proudly served with the men of the 567th Anti-Aircraft Automatic Weapons BN.

On July 3, 1948 Ruben married the love of his life, Mary Garcia at Saint Joseph Church in Ogden, Utah. They celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage together. He retired from Hill Air Force Base after 46 years of dedicated service. He also worked for Whites Orchard in Willard, Utah.

Ruben loved to go hunting and fishing. One of his treasured pass-times was gardening. He grew his prize tomatoes and chili peppers. His grandchildren looked forward to the pumpkins and corn stalks every fall. Ruben was a life-long member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church. Everyone who was lucky enough to cross paths with Ruben came away with much love and respect for such a generous and honorable man. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Mendez of Roy, Utah; his children and their spouses; Marcus Mendez of Huntsville, Utah, Michael Mendez of Morenci, Arizona; Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Mendez, US Army, Draper, Utah; and Nancy Lamont of Riverdale, Utah; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two very special grandsons'-in-law, two sisters and two brothers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters, and one grandson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 3, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, 4050 South 3900 West., West Haven, Utah. Friends and family may call on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West from 6 to8 p.m. with Holy Rosary beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Cremation under the direction of Myers Roy Mortuary.
Burial in Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in honor of Ruben Mendez to Saint Mary's Catholic Church, "Building Fund".
