Rulon Dee Hammer

SUNSET - Our beloved husband and father, Rulon Dee Hammer, 81, returned to our Heavenly Father early Monday morning, September 25, 2006.

He was born to Earl and Erma Hammer in Newdale, Idaho on May 16, 1925 as the oldest of six boys.

He was educated in Idaho, where he left after his junior year to join the Navy during WWII as a welder. He later received an Associate degree from Weber State College.

Rulon married Dawna Stephens on September 2, 1946 in Payette, Idaho. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple on May 7, 1969 and together they raised six children, four girls and two boys. Rulon was a High Priest and served as a Stake Missionary and a faithful home teacher.

Rulon was a man of many talents. He was a building contractor (Hammer Construction) and served as President of the Utah Homebuilders Association. Rulon loved rocks and Indian artifacts and collected many of each. He opened and owned a store in Riverdale called "the Rock-n-Indian." He later moved to St. David, Arizona where he opened another "Rock-n-Indian" along with "The Cone" restaurant, a bakery and a fabric store. It was there that he was able to fine tune many of his talents. He collected more rocks and made jewelry out of many of them. He developed his silversmithing skills and designed much of his work himself. He began oil painting which really became his passion. He loved to share his talents by either teaching others or selling his masterpieces to them. He was a master woodworker, creating beautiful cabinetry, cedar chests, and other various furniture.

He moved to Garland, Utah in his later years to be closer to most of his children and grandchildren. His loving family will miss him greatly.

Surviving are his wife, Dawna, and their six children, Suzanne (Bob) Herre, Sunset; Charolette (John) Thurgood, Syrcause, Lorainne (Dave) Burton Thatcher; Dee Hammer, Widsor, CO; Steve (Kim) Hammer, South Weber; and Sandra (Lloyd) Beardsley, Sonora, CA; His legacy is 22 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren so far. He is also survived by his five brothers.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 30, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Myers Mortuary in Roy, 5865 South 1900 West. Friends and family may call on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Garland Cemetery.
