Ruth Carver Devries

MARRIOTT/SLATERVILLE - Ruth Carver DeVries, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 23, 2007, at McKay Dee Hospital while surrounded by her loving family.
She was born February 20, 1922, in Plain City, Utah, the daughter of Elmer and Jane Carver. She graduated from Weber High School and attended Weber State College.
Ruth married her sweetheart, Kenneth H. DeVries, on June 26, 1941 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They lived in Marriott all their married life. She was a devoted wife and cherished their 46 years together.
She was a member of the Marriott/Slaterville 1st Ward serving faithfully in many callings including Relief Society President and Young Women President. She also served for nine years as a temple worker at the Ogden LDS Temple.
She worked for many years at Wahlquist Jr. High School where she developed lasting friendships with students, teachers and co-workers.
Her family was the most important thing in her life. She had the amazing ability to keep track of each and every one of her family members. She never forgot a birthday or holiday and made a point of attending every special event in the lives of those she loved. She earned every wrinkle on her sweet face through her constant concern for others. She also enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles.

Surviving are her five children, Doug (Karen) DeVries of Bountiful; Gary (Kathryn) DeVries of Farr West; Dean (Voni) DeVries of North Ogden; Linda (Craig) Sarlo of Farr West; David (Kazumi) DeVries of Irvine, CA; and Anne DeVries of South Ogden; sister, Joan Facer of Plain City; brother, Wayne Carver of Northfield, MN; 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Norman Carver.

The family would like to express special thanks to McKay Dee Hospital, Pine View Transitional Rehab, and Mountain Ridge Assisted Living. Their warmth and kindness helped Ruth and her family through this difficult time.
