April 25, 1938-Oct. 20, 2014
Ruth Gunnell Tatton was reunited with her best friend & eternal companion, Bill, and countless loved ones in the presence of her Heavenly Father on Monday October 20, 2014. Ruth was born to Merrill H. Gunnell and Pearl Van Orman on April 25, 1938 in the old Logan Hospital.
She was raised in Logan and attended both Logan Jr. & Sr. High Schools. She graduated with her bachelor's degree from Utah State University and was an active member of the Chi Omega sorority. She ventured to NY to continue her education in interior design. There she met the love of her life, her sailor, William G. Tatton. They were sealed for time & eternity in the Logan, Utah temple on August 11, 1961. Life in the Navy led them to raising a very mobile family in CA, VA, SC. WI & UT. She was a loyal & supportive Navy wife and deeply devoted to her family and church.
Though Ruth's greatest love and time commitment was always her family, she also loved serving in the LDS relief society, playing piano, quilting, spending time with her friends in Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, doing genealogy, and spending time in nature. She also taught school in the Weber school district and loved all of her students as her own. She loved serving others, but especially in doing family history work. Her life's mission was to unite her family through all generations of time. She inspired people of all ages with her testimony and love of her Savior. She faced many challenges in her lifetime but met them all with boundless faith and courage.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Bill. She is survived by her younger brother, Frank (Jan) Gunnell, and her children Richard (Tootie) Tatton, Mary (Michael) Taylor, Helen Naylor, David (Candace) Tatton, John (Jennifer) Tatton, and Jim (Wendy) Tatton and 17 grandchildren.
Ruth's family expresses gratitude to her dedicated physicians who have lovingly cared for her and to the staff at Hearts for Home Health for their love and support. Additionally we thank her circle of friends and loved ones within the community.
Ruth requested in lieu of flowers, please donate to the Helen T. Naylor charitable account at America First Credit Union.
