Sammy Allen Christiansen Obituary (1939 - 2008)

Garland, Utah-- After a life well lived and a courageous battle with cancer Sammy Allen Christiansen passed peacefully from this life into life eternal at his home on Monday September 1, 2008. Sammy lived his life to the fullest beginning on January 27, 1939. He was born in Mayfield Utah to Cleve and Dora Christiansen. Sammy's love for agriculture began at a young age working on the family cattle ranch, which continued on after he graduated in Range Management from Utah State University. His happiest career memories were spent on horse-back, working cattle and managing ranches in Utah, Nevada, Idaho and Wyoming. With his great entrepreneurial spirit he started his own windshield repair business, which he operated for over 25 year in Box Elder County. Sam's main love in this world was for his wife Lorene of 45 years whom he married in the Manti Temple September 13, 1963, his 8 children and their spouses and 23 grandchildren. His deep faith and love of our Savior was shown by his service as a fulltime missionary in the Eastern Canada mission, a faithful home teacher, a High Councilman in the Garland and Fielding Stakes, in two Bishoprics in the East Garland Ward. He was best known as a beloved gospel doctrine teacher for over 12 years. Sam had a competitive nature and loved sports especially, baseball and basketball. He played baseball for Snow College. He loved horseback riding, camping, hunting and four wheeling in the mountains. He was preceded in death by his little sister, Mary Louise, his parents Cleveland and Dora Christiansen, older brother Keith, and older sister Beverly Collmar and grandson Brendon David Cox. He is survived by his sweetheart Lorene Kump Christiansen, his children Kevin Allen Christiansen, Karen ( John ) Cox, Kathryn (Sam) Rose, Gregory Allen (Kathy) Christiansen, Gerry Allen (Ashley) Christiansen, Justin Allen ( Karla) Christiansen, Lindsey (Jason) Nelson, Kimberly Christiansen and 23 grandchildren, and his siblings Norma Fowler , William (Nina) Christiansen, Kenly (Pauline) Christiansen and numerous nieces and nephews. The family extends a special thanks to all neighbors, friends and loving family members who have supported Sam and Lorene so well during his illness. Thanks also to the "angel" health care and hospice nurses and aids. Formal viewing services will be held Friday Sept. 5 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and the following morning on Saturday from 9:00-10:30 a.m. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 6 at 11:00 a.m. These services will be held at the Fielding Stake Center, 4375 West 15600 North, Fielding Utah. Interment will be in the Garland Cemetery.
