Samuel Walter Douglas
Samuel Walter Douglas passed away peacefully on March 24 2015. He was born on April 18, 1918 in Canton, Ohio to Jennie and Paul Douglas. He, his brother and 3 sisters enjoyed their life in Marlboro on the farm. His parents taught him a great work ethic and Dad never forgot the value of an honest day's work. Even after retiring from Diamond Portland Cement Company where he was a civil engineer, he became a roofing inspector and he loved buying wood that was 100 years old and making antiques.
Dad met the love of his life Bernice Cannon and they were married on December 1, 1945. They had many wonderful adventures together especially at Hilton Head.
Dad was very proud of his military service in WWII where he was a Navy signalman on the USS Edwards. Up until a few years ago he was very interested in politics and always loved his country. In his younger years he was involved in the Lion's Club and other civic organizations. Dad loved to serve others and he particularly loved doing projects for his church and its members. When he could no longer serve them they lovingly served him.
He is survived by his Daughter Kathleen Brockman of Utah, his son Jim (Michele) Douglas of Akron, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and 3 sisters, a young son Daniel and his son-in-law, Larry.
We would like to thank Stone Crossing and Crossroads Hospice for their kind and loving care of our dad.
Services will be held on Saturday, March at 11 with visitation at 10 at Zions United Church of Christ in North Canton with interment following at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.
