Shanna Ruth Seely, 91, passed away Monday, September 28, 2026 in Layton, Utah from causes incident to age.
Shanna was born March 17, 1935 in the family home in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, to Hans Rex Seely and Mary Mae Krebs Seely
From an early age Shanna learned the importance of hard work. With seven siblings, there was always plenty of work to do! She carried that ethic throughout her life.
Shanna graduated from Wasatch Academy and North Sanpete High School. She met handsome James Naylor Jones walking home one night from a church activity. Their courtship began the next week when he asked her out. After he returned from Army service in Korea, they were married in September, 1955.
The newlyweds begin their life together in San Francisco where Jim attended court reporting school. When he graduated, they moved to Rupert, Idaho where Jim got his first job as a court reporter.
In Rupert, Shanna and Jim experienced the heartache of losing their first children, infant twin girls Melody and Melanie who lived only hours after their births. They also discovered the joy of adopting their oldest son, Randy.
As the years rolled by, three other children joined their family: David, Michele, and Jennifer.
Shanna’s first priority was always her home and family. She was an immaculate housekeeper and skilled cook. At Christmas, she and Jim always partnered to make a freezer full of candy and cookies, which Randy would routinely raid.
She crocheted beautiful blankets and blessing gowns for family and friends, later expanding her talents into creating crocheted animals she gifted and sold to neighbors. She loved fishing and taking care of her flowers, especially her beautiful roses.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Shanna was always supportive of her children’s and grandchildren’s activities – everything from dance recitals to ball games. She loved playing card games!
Shanna is survived by her children: Randy (Jennifer), David (Elizabeth), Michele (Darrell), Jennifer (Michael), eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, their daughters Melody and Melanie, her parents and seven siblings.
The family is grateful for the support from Utah Home Health and Hospice, particularly Amber Wilson, RN, as well as the staff of The Abbington assisted living center.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 11:00 AM. A visitation will be held prior to services 9:30-10:30 AM at Myers Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West Roy, Utah.
