Sharon Russell Hendry, 86, passed away peacefully July 15, 2019, after suffering for several years from Alzheimer's disease. She was born July 19, 1932, to William Raymond and Lizzie Hunt in Ogden, Utah. She moved to Roy, Utah as a young girl, attended local schools, and graduated from Weber High School in 1950.
In 1951, Sharon married Jerry Russell and from this union came five children: Chad (Susan Dapson), Gaylene Block (Dan), Rand (Janice), Brad (Vikki), and Lana Wilcox (Dean). Sharon's life revolved tightly around her family, especially her five children. She created a home filled with a deep, profound love and a nurturing, supportive environment to raise her children. Her kids would rush home from school not knowing what fresh-baked goodie awaited them as they burst through the door. Sharon was an expert canner of northern Utah's plentiful fruits, and always made the holidays extra special from all the seasonal decorations that filled the home--not to mention homemade candies and cookies for Christmas celebrations. Sharon was a go-to driver of little league players to baseball, basketball, and football games. There was no bigger fan of her children's sporting and extracurricular activities than Sharon.
Sharon's first marriage ended in divorce in 1979. She subsequently met Robert A. Hendry and they married in 1982. Sharon and Robert spent 35 loving years together before he passed away in early 2017. Together they shared a love of the mountains, snowmobiling in their early years, flower and vegetable gardening, and all creatures big and small--but especially birds.
During the last two-plus years Sharon lived at Brookdale Assisted Living in North Ogden. Sharon's children thank the staff members who attended to her needs with compassion during her last years of life. They are eternally grateful for all you did for her.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, one sister, and a grandson, Taylor Wilcox. She is survived by her five children, one grandson, and two granddaughters.
For those wishing to pay their last respects to Sharon and her family there will be a visitation 5-7:00 pm on Monday, August 12, 2019, at Myers Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West, Roy, Utah.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lantern House 269 West 33rd Street Ogden, Utah 84401. 801-621-5036 ex 125 (www.stannescenter.org)--a charity close to Sharon's heart.
