Shirl Leavitt Obituary (1948 - 2009)

Shirl Leavitt CLINTON - Shirl Leavitt, 60, passed away Monday, January 19, 2009 surrounded by his family. He was born June 15, 1948 in Provo, Utah to Gerald and Belva Hooley Leavitt. Shirl married Geraldine "Geri" Turner on June 30, 1967 in Lehi, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. He attended Pleasant Grove schools and was raised in Orem by his grandparents, graduating from Orem High School. Shirl was a member of the Clinton 19th Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a faithful member and served in many callings throughout his life. He retired from civil service after 34 years with DDO and HAFB. Shirl's hobby was cars. He loved looking at them and fixing them. He liked to camp, hunt, and fish. Also, enjoyed music of all kinds. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandpa. His family was his number one focus, and tried to be involved in everything they did. Surviving are his wife (Geri) Leavitt, children: Holly, Natalie, and Adam Leavitt, one grandchild, Karli, step-father, Alan Carling, half siblings, Kathy, Kelly, Nancy, Flavalou, Scott, Lee. He was preceded in death by his mother, his father, stepmother, (Bobbi) grandparents, Lenard and Cora Hooley, in-laws, Gerald and Retta Turner. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 23, 2009 at 12 noon at the Clinton 19th Ward, 702 West 1300 North, Clinton. Friends may call on Thursday at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday at the church from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. prior to services. A viewing will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the Lehi LDS 2nd, 5th, 9th, Ward Bldg., 465 East 300 North, Lehi from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. with graveside services at 12 noon at the Lehi City Cemetery, 10th North 4th East, Lehi.
