Shirlea Marie Horne Obituary (1932 - 2013)

Shirlea Marie Horne August 1, 1932 ~ April 28, 2013 Shirlea Marie Josephson Horne has received and accepted her invitation to a joyful family reunion hosted by her Heavenly Father. Her husband and sweetheart, Ron Horne, left less than a week ago to make sure all was in readiness for Shirlea's arrival. Already in attendance at this grand reunion are her parents, Karl and Leah Josephson, her brothers Richard (Dick), Paul and Steven Josephson and Dwight Jensen. Shirlea's son Michael Christensen, son-in-law Jay Sorensen and grandson Jason Sorensen were also there to welcome her to the celebration along with many other relatives and family friends. Those still left here on earth awaiting their invitation include her brother, Kent (Gayle) Josephson, Longview, TX; Karla (Roy) Hardy, Brigham City; daughters: Lisa Sorensen, Brigham City; Lyn (Monte) DeBerry, Kaysville; Bev Dickerman, Las Vegas; and son, Curt (Rebecca) Christensen, Tucson; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Shirlea was born August 1, 1932 in Brigham City and lived there most of her life except for about 20 years when she lived in Richland, WA, Germany and Rancho Cordova, CA. During this time she, along with her first husband, adopted their five children. They all moved back to Brigham City in 1969, moving into her childhood home, built by her Grandfather. Her home and gardens became a source of joy for her and she took pride in their beauty. It was next door to her parents' home, allowing her to care for them in their later years. Shirlea's life of caring for other did not begin there. While living in California she attended American River College near Sacramento and received her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. After moving back to Utah, she began her nursing career at Brigham City Cooley Hospital. Through the years she also worked at Godfrey Nursing Home, then as a home health care nurse. She also took into her home, and cared for, two elderly patients. Shirlea married her eternal companion, Ron Horne, on October 25, 1979. They moved to Idaho, where they lived for only a few years before returning to Utah. They lived in Salt Lake City where Ron continued his education and Shirlea worked for a cardiologist. They later moved back to their home in Brigham City. She loved gardening, reading, painting, camping and hiking in the great outdoors. She was a lifelong swimmer and for years, she and her good friend Joan Wolf swam each morning at the junior high or high school. Together, they also developed a passion for genealogy and went weekly to the genealogical library in Salt Lake. Shirlea was a devoted member of the L.D.S. church where she served in many callings including relief society and primary president. She and Ron also served a mission in Atlanta, Georgia. Mom, Grandma, Friend, and more; you are loved and will be greatly missed. Goodbye until we see you again at our reunion. Funeral services for both Shirlea and Ron will be held Friday, May 3, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Mortuary Chapel, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City, UT. Friends may call Friday from 9:00 to 10:40 a.m. at the Mortuary. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
