Shirley Cunnington Koberna

ROY - Shirley Cunnington Koberna passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2009.

She was born in Hooper, Utah on March 2, 1925 to Joseph A. and Matilda Jones Cunnington.

Shirley graduated from Weber High School and Weber College. She obtained a Bachelor's Degree from Brigham Young University and a Master's Degree from New York University.

She married Franklin Joseph Koberna on November 10, 1949 in Decatur, Illinois and they were sealed in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. Shirley had many and varied Ward and Stake callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in seven states.

In the Midwest she taught LDS Seminary as well as Art Appreciation in School. After returning to Utah, Shirley was Executive Director of the Academy for Lifelong Learning at Weber State University.

She is survived by her husband, Frank; children: Lynn, Dallas, Texas; Karen (Joe) Knott; Los Angeles, California; Kristy, El Granada, California; Kyle, Ogden, Utah. Also surviving are four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a sister, Alex (Ric) Anderson, San Diego, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Keith and Chloy Cunnington.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West. Family and friends may gather on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 11: 45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to services.

Interment, Hooper City Cemetery, 5290 South 6300 West, Hooper.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund.
