Shirley Montgomery

–

Tremonton, Utah

Our sweet and salty Grandma was called home on Sunday, August 16, 2026. She was surrounded by her family. We know her reunion with Grandpa and Brenda was long awaited.

Shirley was born on May 5, 1946, in Plain City, Utah to Frank Neilson and June Folkman. As a young child, she moved to the Ogden Valley where she made lifelong friends and had endless adventures. When she met the love of her life, Dennis Montgomery, that was when her life truly began. They were married June 21, 1963, and were inseparable ever since. They started their family soon after; Brett and Brenda were their pride and joy.

Shirley spent her days raising kids and making memories that lasted all of them a lifetime. She also worked part-time at Dee's Restaurant and Albertson’s until she began her career at the IRS, where she was a lead for over two decades. We still remember her stories about working for a short time at the Pentagon in 2001. She retired a short time later and spent her days in her true calling: being a devoted Grandma.

She loved watching her grandkids rodeo, or whatever activity they enjoyed. She and Dennis moved to Tremonton in 2006 and threatened to move back to the Valley almost daily; although living near Brenda and her family definitely made them feel more at home.

Her grandkids were her biggest fans. To this day, they get together and laugh about the classic '90s childhood Grandma & Grandpa helped facilitate. They learned how to bet on horses at the races, got to ride in the back of the truck everywhere they went, and looked forward to RC Willey hotdogs on Saturdays and the right/left present game at Christmas parties.

Shirley is survived by her son Brett, who cared for her until the end; her bonus son Davey; sisters Sharon and Francine (Ron); her grandkids TJ (Brittney), Magen (Eric), Tayler (Kevin), Caleb (Trinitie), Colten, JD (Chelsi), Jacy (Josh), and Lexi (Ryn); 14 great-grandchildren; and too many nieces and nephews to name.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dennis, daughter Brenda, both of her parents, her sister Eileen, stepbrothers Frank (Vickie), Clyde, and John, and one stepsister, Nancy.

The last three years were hard on Grandma. Anyone who knew her would agree that she was a force to be reckoned with, right until the end. She never lost her sense of humor or her grit.

We are grateful for the care she received from Myranda and Our House Assisted Living. We hope you were entertained by her routine of pulling the fire alarm and many attempts to escape.

A viewing will be held at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, on Friday, August 21, 2026 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm followed by a burial service at the Liberty Cemetery at 1:00 pm.

Friends and family are encouraged to share pictures and stories of Shirley on her memorial page at https://www.myers-mortuary.com/obituaries/shirley-montgomery-2026.
