Stanley M. Erickson
November 10, 1928 - September 13, 2013
SUNSET - Born to Eric Golden Erickson and Effie Deon Minor on a farm ten miles northwest of Delta, Utah. Their two-room home had no electricity, water or plumbing. This home burned and the family moved to Sutherland, Utah near Delta. Stanley had a great love for his older sister Glenna (Carl Wilson), and younger siblings Mignon (Irvin Hatch), Rhea (Dr. Sterling Church), and Willard Ray (Marylou Packard).
In his first seven years of school at Sutherland, he was a straight 'A' student. Graduating from Delta High School, he was a friend to all and held many class offices. When he was a teenager, he did heavy farm work that left him crippled in his neck and back. He suffered all his life because of these injuries. He attended a vocational school located in Provo, in 1962. He earned a degree in electronics there. Stanley held class offices there as well. After graduating, he moved to Ogden and worked at Hill Air Force Base until retiring at age sixty. Stanley received many awards for his outstanding work achievements. He was meticulous about his person, home, yard, car and dress.
Stanley married Carole Johnson, who had been a special friend since he was 14.
They married August 23, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had four children, Michael (Tina Cowe); Laura (Michael Thomas); John, and David (Janae Daley). The children were his pride and joy, as well as his fifty-one grandchildren
and great-grandchildren. The grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought into the family by previous marriages were welcomed into the family. Stanley didn't quit working when he retired. He obtained employment at Winegar's grocery store and bagged groceries for seven years. During that time he made lifelong friends.
He loved to sing and dance. He sang in Ward Choirs, and with his children. In Delta, he sang with a group called "the Desert Sentinels." He and Carole traveled, enjoying Europe, Egypt, Alaska and Mexico. They were devoted L.D.S. Church members; and served a mission in Munich Germany. Here at home he served a Stake Mission, he then served in the Stake Mission Presidency. He also served in two Bishoprics, before being a Bishop himself of the Sunset 4th Ward.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, brother, two daughters-in-law, and a grandson. If he were here, he would surely like to thank the many people who helped him and Carole throughout his life - his family, friends, neighbors, and care givers at Heritage Park Care Center and Inspiration Hospice.
