Stayner L. Thompson Obituary (1923 - 2008)

BRIGHAM CITY - Stayner L. Thompson, 84, passed away on Monday, February 18, 2008 at the Ogden Regional Hospital. Stayner was born in Brigham City, Utah on August 29, 1923 a son of Roy L. and Lavon Stayner Thompson. Graduated from Box Elder High School in 1941 then attended Utah State University prior to his service in WWII. He served in the US Army Artillery as a 1st Lieutenant, and then served as Battalion Platoon Leader in the 440th Automatic Weapons Unit in the Battle of the Bulge and D-day and the first wave at Utah Beach in WWII. Stayner married Dorothy Bradshaw on January 16, 1946 in Cedar City, Utah. He was the owner and operator of Thompson Hardware in Brigham City. Stayner was a member of Rotary Club, Brigham Country Club, and Logan Country Club, was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman, and he loved wild life. He loved music and was an excellent piano player. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Thompson, Brigham City, UT; children; Brad L. Thompson, Idaho Falls, ID; Kirk L. (Maureen) Thompson, Port Angeles, WA; Roy B. Thompson, Hawaii; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one sister, Sharon Ward, Idaho Falls, ID. Preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Geraldine T. Mariani. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary 205 S. 100 E. Brigham City, UT. Friends may call on Friday from 12:15 to 1:45 p.m. at the Mortuary. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Primary Children's or the Brigham City YWCA.
