Sterling Ray Morris Obituary (1929 - 2017)

Sterling Ray Morris On Monday, May 8, 2017 Sterling Ray Morris passed away peacefully. He was surrounded by his loving companion and children. Sterling was born January 21, 1929 in Ogden, Utah and was one of eleven children born to Mary Etta Larabee and Earl W. Morris. On July 28, 1950, he married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Russell, in the Logan Temple. They were blessed with two wonderful and gifted children, Machel (Douglas) Knowles and Thomas (Margaret) Morris, nine grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren. Sterling was drafted two months after their marriage and served with the 6th Armored Division in Korea. He attended Ogden High School and graduated from Weber College. He was a journeyman sheet metal worker at Williamsons, a rocket engineer at Marquart and an Engineering technician in Aerospace at Hill Air Force Base. He retired from HAFB in logistics management in 1992 following a stroke. Sterling was a faithful member of the LDS church. He was a righteous man who loved the Savior and strove to live according to His teachings. He served faithfully in many ward and stake callings including ward bishopric and high council. He was blessed with a beautiful voice and sang at numerous funerals, civic events, and church meetings. He loved baseball, hunting, gardening, wood working and enjoyed spending time with his family. He pitched on school baseball teams and in the Industrial League. He is survived by his loving wife Marilyn Russell Morris, siblings David (Pat) Morris and Margie (Monte) Call. A special thanks to Legacy Hospice staff and Mount Ogden Care Center staff, for their kind, compassionate and cheerful care they gave to Sterling. His viewing will be held Friday 6-8 pm May 12th at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. Ogden, UT and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 13th at 11 am at the LDS South Ogden 5th Ward located at 4380 Orchard Ave. Interment Ogden City Cemetery.
