Our sweet mother, grandmother, wife, sister, and friend, Susan Allene Anderson, was peacefully welcomed into eternity on July 30, 2025, surrounded by those she loved most. True to her nature, she left this world gracefully battling to the end—just the way she lived.
Born on November 24, 1946, in Alamosa, Colorado, Susan was one of eight children of Almeta and Augustus Nance. She grew up in Syracuse, Utah with four older brothers and three sisters, developing the patience and resilience she would later use as a mother and grandmother. She was quick to laugh, quicker to forgive, and had a quiet strength that made you feel like you were the most important person in her life, because you were.
Susan married Tim Bovee on January 9, 1966. Together, they raised three children who became the focus of her life. Though their marriage eventually came to an end, her love and devotion to her children only deepened. Every broken heart, every school project glued together at midnight, every late-night phone call mattered to her—because in her eyes, nothing was ever too small when it came to her kids. She celebrated the ordinary with extraordinary love.
On July 18, 2004, Susan married Steven Anderson. Together they shared a deep love and commitment to their grandchildren, whether cheering from the stands at a ballgame or saddling up horses for an afternoon ride. Susan’s greatest joy was being “Grandma.” Her grandkids were her “special angels,” and they knew it. Whether it was reading stories, making cookies, sneaking treats, or just talking about life, she made each of them feel like they were the most important person in the room. And honestly, when she was with you—she made you feel like you were too.
Susan was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and her faith ran deep—but she didn’t make a show of it. She simply lived it. She gently nudged her family to stay close to the Lord, and she worked every day to do the same herself. Her testimony was evident in how she served others, how she let things go, and how she loved without hesitation. She was steady in what she believed, and those beliefs quietly shaped everything she did. Mom loved beautiful things—sunsets, flowers, soft music, family dinners, a good book, and a better conversation. She could find joy in the simplest of moments and taught us to do the same. Her sense of humor was sweet and subtle with her Susan-isms, and of course her smile which could calm a storm.
Susan is survived by her three children: Jerry (Julie) Bovee, Becky (Tim) Boutchyard, and Julie (Darren) Peterson; her husband, Steven Anderson; his children Sheri (Robert) Steed, Traci (Doug) Robbins, Nicki Anderson and Jason (Holly) Anderson. She was proud of her 34 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, as well as her countless extended family members and friends who adored her. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, and three brothers, no doubt joyfully reunited with her now.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Stokes Nature Center in Susan’s honor. Susan loved hummingbirds and this is a way to support hummingbirds in Utah; your generosity will continue the support for these beautiful birds. The family would like to thank the Intermountain Hospice team for their compassionate care, and especially Drs. Zachary Campbell and Roger Paulman for walking this journey with us—with such heart.
We’ll miss her every day, but we take comfort knowing she’s just ahead—probably humming a hymn, stocking heaven’s pantry with caramels, pebble ice, red Solo cups, and a hidden stash of diet Dr. Pepper and you can bet she’s already fluffed the pillows, straightened the picture frames, and made sure everyone’s being polite. If the angels needed someone to whip up Rice Pilaf, soothe a worried soul, or remind them that kindness still matters most—Susan was made for the job. Her love didn’t end here; it simply got reassigned... to a higher calling.
Susan's funeral service will be livestreamed. Please scroll down below her obituary and click on the link in order to watch her funeral.
