Paul Teruo Sumida Obituary (1934 - 2013)

Paul Sumida Paul Teruo Sumida, 79, peacefully passed away on October 23, 2013, in his South Ogden home with his family tenderly at his side. Paul, with the diligent care of his wife, Jean, had bravely managed diabetes and a number of other ailments for the last few years of his life. He will be greatly missed by his family. Paul was born on July 8, 1934, in Los Angeles, California, the older of two sons, to Motoharu and Chiyo Sumida. Paul graduated from Box Elder High School and Utah State University. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve at Fort Lewis, WA and Fort Ord, CA. Paul married Jean Kamigaki on April 3, 1969, and they were blessed to raise two wonderful daughters. Paul taught for nearly 35 years in the Ogden City School District and was well respected and liked as a teacher. Paul farmed throughout his life, which was not only an occupation, but a hobby that he loved. He, along with his wife, his brother, and parents, ran Sumida's Fruit Stand in Perry for many years. Paul had a sharp financial mind as well. He loved to go fishing at his favorite fishing holes. Paul's greatest concern was for the well-being of his family, who will miss him dearly. Paul is survived by his wife, Jean Sumida, South Ogden, UT; daughter, Debbie (Gary) Rex and seven grandchildren, Springville, UT; daughter, Michelle Sumida, Portland, OR; mother, Chiyo Sumida, Perry, UT; and brother, Masayoshi Sumida, Perry, UT. He was preceded in death by his father, Motoharu Sumida. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 28, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Mortuary Chapel, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City, UT. Viewings will be held on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 to 10:40 a.m. at the Mortuary. Interment will be at the Brigham City Cemetery. We love you, Paul!
