Thekla Katharine Holmes Harwood Obituary (1920 - 2009)

Thekla Katharine Holmes Harwood Thekla Katharine Holmes Harwood, 89, of Black, Idaho passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at Bingham Memorial Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born January 18, 1920 to Johanna Antonia Ibel and William Mosiah Holmes. She was the youngest of five sisters and three brothers; Cy, Wendell, Bill, Wheltha, Lucy, Dorothea, Maude and Jenny. All have preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her son, Bruce. Thekla is survived by her husband of 65 years, Jack O. Harwood of Blackfoot; daughter Katharine (Brent) Carlson of Shelley, ID; sons David (Bonnie) of Blackfoot, ID and Daniel (Jill) of Idaho Falls, ID; eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Thekla graduated from Weber County High School and Weber College. She was working at the Ogden Army Depot when she met the love of her life, a dashing man named Jack O. Harwood. Jack and Thekla were married December 4, 1945 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Jack's work as a soil scientist enabled them to live in various places in Idaho; Shoshone, Orofino, Coeur d' Alene, Preston, Blackfoot and Idaho Falls. They retired to Blackfoot, ID in 1976 where they built their dream home and have resided there ever since. Thekla worked many various jobs, using her secretarial skills. She was employed by the Blackfoot, Idaho Falls and Skyline schools. She also worked in the real estate and insurance business. Thekla was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in numerous positions in the Relief Society and Primary. She loved her husband, family, church, friends and her many beloved dogs. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, UT.
