Thomas Carter

–

Ogden, Utah

We gather to celebrate the life of Thomas Clifford Carter. He was commonly known as Tom, Uncle Tom, or Grandpa Tom (but he never liked “Tom”). His parents and siblings always called him Tommy, which he preferred. He was born on March 17, 1941 in Blackfoot, Idaho and lived a full life until March 20, 2025. Thomas had an adventurous spirit, creative mind, compassion, and loyalty. He also loved to talk (and talk and talk) and tell stories. He would talk to almost anyone. He left an impression on all he met.

Thomas spent his early years on a farm in Idaho. Of all the places he lived, he had a special fondness for it and longed to return. He also cherished his time in Salina, Utah.

Thomas was a man who found joy in simplicity. Worldly possessions meant little to him. There were sentimental items, but most of all he cared for things of the heart.

His love for nature was evident in his hobbies that included camping, fishing, hiking and geocaching. He also loved to go on a good adventure. Thomas loved to ride his motorcycle or drive any vehicle through the hills and mountains looking for new places to explore. He also loved the beauty of nature––enjoying every sunrise and sunset. His creative side showed through his knack for inventing things. He also loved playing Rook with his family (as often as possible), and he had an incredible aptitude for math.

Thomas was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He worked to emulate Jesus Christ by living the story of the good Samaritan. His compassionate nature was evident in his desire to help others. As stated in the Book of Mormon, “When you are in the service of your fellow beings, ye are only in the service of your God” (Mosiah 2:17).

Thomas is remembered by his former spouse Paula Carter and nine children: Cheria and Carl Jerue, Heidi and late husband Roger Meister, Troy and Jocelyn Carter, Desireé and Doug Hampton, McLain Carter and Sandy Freeman, Devin and Lisa Carter, Dustin and Ivonne Carter, Nikia and Ryan Harvey, Shandi and Shay Muir, 46 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many four-legged friends. Thomas is also survived by 4 siblings. He is preceded in death by his parents, G. Ronald Carter and Blanch Mary Bosanko, two sisters, and his favorite dog, Ladybug.
