THOMAS GEORGE TURNER
1932 -2003
ROY -- Thomas George Turner, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away April 23, 2003 at his home in Roy, Utah of natural causes. He was born July 18, 1932 in Tooele, Utah to Francis Marion Turner and Elva Leone Dymock. He married Zella W. Shields on August 15, 1952 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Tom and Zella celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August of 2002.
In 1955 he graduated from Brigham Young University. He served as a navigator in the U.S. Air Force where he attained the rank of Captain. After his service in the Air Force, he pursued a career in Manufacturing Engineering. He worked for Sperry Univac, Marquart, Cutter Laboratories, and Delmed. He retired from Orbit Irrigation as Vice President of Manufacturing.
Tom was active in professional and civic activities. He served as President
of the Murdock Utah Management Association, as a member of the Utah State Advisory Council for Vocational and Technical Training, a member of the Vocational Education Committee at Weber State College, and as a charter member of the Weber County Manufacturing Association.

He served as a Stake High Councilor, followed by nine years of service in the Roy Utah North Stake Presidency. At the time of his death he was serving as coordinator of the LDS Family Services Substance Abuse Recovery Mission with his wife.
Tom was an avid scouter and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. In 1992 he was awarded Scouting's highest honor Silver Beaver. Tom came from a family of scouters and passed this legacy on to his sons, who are both Eagle Scouts, and to his grandsons.
Tom was happiest when he was in the outdoors with his family. Tom's motto was 'Families that boat together stay together!' This certainly proved true with his own family. They spent many happy summers together in the family boat traveling from Hebgen Lake in Montana to Lake Powell and Flaming Gorge. His last summers were spent fishing in his boat at "The Gorge."
