Vauna Cleo Broderick Olmstead Obituary (1925 - 2017)

Vauna Cleo Broderick Olmstead January 22, 1925 - April 7, 2017 On April 7, 2017, Vauna Broderick Olmstead, age 92, endured to the end and faithfully completed her earthly mission surrounded by her loving family. Vauna was born Jan. 22, 1925 to Wilford Broderick and Elverda Minchey Broderick. She was raised in Emery, Utah with her two brothers and three sisters whom she loved dearly. Upon graduation from South Emery High School, she moved to Stockton, California and there met her eternal sweetheart, Harold Olmstead of Roy, Utah. They were married in the Logan Temple on July 21, 1944 and spent 60 choice years together before he passed away. Mom was blessed with innumerable talents. She was a gifted seamstress, cook, decorator, scrap booker, doll collector, and listener who unselfishly built a gospel centered home for her family. She lived a life of service and unconditional love, and people of all ages gravitated toward her and her contagious smile. Proud of the year she was P.T.A. President at Municipal, she enriched the lives of the children to such an extent that she was asked to serve a second year. The youth of the church adored her while Stake Young Women President; whether at Girls Camp or parties and dances, they attended because Sister Olmstead was there. Her Relief Society lessons, that she spent countless hours preparing, remain fond memories of all who heard them. As Relief Society President, she administered to the "one," sewing more than 200 nightgowns to cheer and to bless; and was an exemplary visiting teacher until the end. She united her ward through her legendary activities and parties, always handing out prizes as well as laughter. She earned the title of Queen of her ward. The highlight of her life was serving with Dad in the Spain Madrid Mission. Though her Spanish was limited, her love was endless, and the people adored her. Mom deserved her title of President of our family. She was the center of each holiday, birthday and family reunions. She taught us to cherish the Gospel, the Savior, scriptures, and temple by her example and testimony. Grandma was on the front row of every recital, performance, and program, giving encouragement and a prize, making sure each grandchild knew they were her favorite. Every trip, wedding, or award was more fun with Grandma there. Her friends meant the world to her and her gratitude for them was immense. Vauna touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be forever missed, but never forgotten, as her legacy will live on in each one of us. She is survived by her children: Wayne (Cathie) Olmstead, Fairfield, California, Vonalee (Dan) Mildon, Syracuse, Utah, Hal (Yvonne) Olmstead, Uintah, Utah, 22 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Olmstead, a daughter Liliene Totton, son-in-law Larry Totton, grandchildren Cammy and Rodney Totton, and a granddaughter Angela Olmstead. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 15, 2017, at 12 Noon, at the Chateau Park Ward, 5930 South 2200 West. Friends may call on Friday at Myers Mortuary in Roy, 5865 South 1900 West, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. prior to services.
