Verla Marian Cunningham Scoville Obituary (1917 - 2007)

Verla Marian Cunningham Scoville PLEASANT VIEW - A beautiful, loving spirit returned to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, September 29, 2007. Verla Marian Cunningham Scoville, of Pleasant View, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family. Verla was born in Ogden, July 2, 1917 to Claudius Victor and Florence Margaret Gould Cunningham. She attended Ogden City schools and one year at Sugar-Salem High in Sugar City, Idaho. After her graduation from Ogden High School, she worked as a very skilled secretary for the Engineering Dept. of Amalgamated Sugar Co., until her marriage. On May 18, 1939, Verla was married in the Salt Lake Temple to James R. Scoville. Together they raised six children; four daughters and two sons. She was a very devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her greatest joy was being with her family. She loved to travel with them and especially enjoyed many trips to Hawaii. She had great compassion for everyone and her life was spent sharing what she had with others. She always saw the beauty in people and her surroundings. One of her favorite sayings was "Life is still beautiful" She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many church positions. She especially liked teaching children in the Primary Organization and being a Cub Scout Den Mother. She also served on the Lorin Farr Stake Primary Board. She is survived by her husband Jim; and five children: Claudia (Lee) Stone, currently serving a mission in Rochester, NY; Carol (Bill) Steele, Southern CA; Charlene (Art) Mitchell, West Point; Rollane (Dave) Shurtleff, Uintah; Ronald Kent (Linda) Scoville, Pleasant View. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Brenda Scoville; a brother Tom (Jean) Cunningham; 31 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Kirk; one great-grandchild; her parents; a sister Mildred Woodruff and a brother Robert Likes. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 4, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Pleasant View 12th Ward, 900 W. Pleasant View Dr. Friends and family may call at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., on Wednesday, October 3rd from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the church.
