In Loving Memory of Verla Lucille Waters
September 25, 1942 – October 10, 2026
Verla Lucille Waters, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2026, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly. Born on September 25, 1942, in Tremonton, Utah, to Farren Christensen and Lucille Anderson Christensen, Verla lived a life marked by resilience, determination, faith, and an unwavering devotion to her family. She was a woman of remarkable strength, a strong and independent spirit, and a personality that will never be forgotten.
Verla grew up on a farm alongside her siblings, Farrel, Penny, Ron, Cristy, and Susie. Her childhood was filled with hard work, family adventures, mischief, laughter, and plenty of stories that would be shared for years to come. Those early experiences helped shape the woman she became, instilling in her the values of perseverance, honesty, independence, and loyalty to family.
Verla was strong-willed, outspoken, and honest to her core. She spoke her mind, stood firm in her beliefs, and lived life in her own unmistakable way. Those who knew her always knew where they stood with her. Beneath her strong exterior, however, was a heart filled with deep and enduring love. She cared fiercely for the people in her life and remained devoted to those closest to her. Her strength was evident not only in the challenges she faced but also in the love and determination with which she continued through life.
Family was always at the center of Verla’s world. She married Curtis Worden, and together they raised five children: Cindy, Kelly, Debby, Allen, and Karen. Her family grew to include eight grandchildren: Corey, Shantel, JJ, Berklee, Bryer, Karley, Tristin, and Katy; nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild
Verla later married Richard Alvin Waters, who preceded her in death in 2000.
Her family was her greatest treasure, and her influence will continue through the generations she leaves behind. The lessons she taught, the traditions she established, and the memories she created will remain a lasting part of her family’s story.
Verla’s faith was an important part of her life. As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she cherished attending church on Sundays and found comfort in her relationship with her Heavenly Father. Her faith provided strength throughout her life, and her belief in eternal families brought her hope and reassurance. The promise of being reunited with loved ones offers comfort to those who mourn her passing.
Some of Verla’s most treasured memories were made in the kitchen. She cherished recipes passed down from her mother and grandmother and lovingly taught her family to make cinnamon rolls, pies, breads, and other homemade favorites. She was already teaching great grand daughter Holland to bake. Her cooking was more than a way to feed her family; it was a way to share love, preserve traditions, and bring generations together.
Her homemade chicken soup was always ready when someone was sick, offering comfort when it was needed most. Her pumpkin loaf became a beloved autumn tradition, filling the home with the familiar warmth of the season. Through these simple but meaningful acts, Verla created memories that her family will carry forward. The recipes she shared and the traditions she passed down will continue to bring loved ones together for years to come.
Verla also enjoyed the things that brought her happiness and reflected her adventurous spirit. A lifelong fan of Elvis Presley, she dreamed of visiting Hawaii and was fortunate enough to experience one of her favorite destinations. The island’s beautiful beaches, ocean waves, and warm sunshine gave her memories to cherish. She also loved classic movies from the 1950s, especially Blue Hawaii, as well as western films, Wild West stories, and classic western music. Her love of these timeless favorites reflected her independent nature and her appreciation for the things she enjoyed most.
Above all, Verla treasured time spent with her family. Whether gathered around the table, sharing a homemade meal, or laughing over familiar family stories, these moments brought her great joy. She taught those around her the importance of standing strong, speaking honestly, persevering through difficult times, and loving family wholeheartedly. Her lessons were sometimes delivered through quiet acts of kindness and sometimes through her famously stubborn nature, but they were always unmistakably her own.
Verla’s passing leaves a profound emptiness in the lives of those who loved her. Her voice, laughter, opinions, cooking, and distinctive personality will be deeply missed. Her family will miss the everyday moments that once seemed so familiar: sharing another meal, hearing another story, or simply being in her presence.
Yet her legacy will live on in the many ways she touched the lives of others. She will be remembered whenever a beloved family recipe is prepared, when the scent of pumpkin loaf fills the home on a cool autumn day, when chicken soup is made for someone in need of comfort, or when an Elvis song brings back a cherished memory. She will live on in the strength of her children, the memories of her grandchildren, and the lives of her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Verla Lucille Waters was a remarkable woman who lived life with strength, conviction, faith, and a love that ran deep. Though her time on earth has come to an end, the impact of her life will continue through the family she built, the traditions she preserved, and the generations who will carry her memory forward.
May she rest peacefully in the loving embrace of her Heavenly Father, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her. Her family will forever be grateful for the time they shared with her and will hold close the memories, lessons, and love she leaves behind.
She was one of a kind, deeply loved, and will never be forgotten. Her life was a lasting gift to her family, and her love will remain in their hearts for generations to come.
