Verne Lance Greenwell Obituary (1916 - 2002)

Verne Lance Greenwell Verne Lance Greenwell took the next step in his journey we call life on June 19, 2002. He was born Aug. 20, 1916 in West Weber, UT. He was the 5th child born to Lancelot and Robena Hammon Greenwell. Verne was an Elder in the LDS Church. He served on the M-men basketball board in the old North Weber Stake and Pres. of the MIA in the West Weber Ward. Verne loved sports and was past Pres. of the Weber County Farm Bureau. He caught baseball for the Farm league and Utah General Depot in the Metropolitan league. He owned his own trucking company collecting milk in Northern Utah for Mutual Cannery. He owned and operated a Phillips 66 gas station in Harrisville for six years before going to work for UDOT as a supervisor of signs and painting highways in District # 1 and later was District Safety Coordinator. He retired from UDOT after 25 years. Verne married Nedra McFarland in the Salt Lake Temple on Jan. 19, 1939. They lived in Marriott for 30 years raising their six children. They were later divorced. He married Geraldine Beveridge in Cheyenne, Wyoming on Oct. 21, 1971. Verne is survived by his wife Gerry and the following children. Karen (Norm) Holden, David (Ella) Greenwell, Orma (Gerald) Bischoff, Joseph (Jan) Greenwell, Wayne Greenwell, and Ned (Bridget) Greenwell all of Ogden. Stepchildren Charleen (Buck) White, Patrick (Pam) Beveridge of Columbus, Ohio and Brent (Donna) Beveridge; Houston, Texas. He was 23 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren. He also has two special friends who he treated as his own children, Douglas and Phyllis Hill of Ogden. Also surviving are Brother-in-laws George A. Lambert and Charles E. (Carole) Lambert. He loved all of those listed very much. He was preceded in death by his parents, four bothers, and two sisters. Verne spent many years during his later life enjoying pool, ceramics, and friends at the Golden Hours center in Ogden. The family wishes to thank IHC Hospice for their love and care of Verne.
